Quebec beer store
I have a question for anyone who is familiar with Quebec. I will be driving through the province at the end of this week and was wondering where a good spot to stop and pick up beer would be. I would rather not stop in Montreal or Quebec City, but if I have to I will do anything for a good beer. I might also find myself in Ottawa so if you know anywhere in Hull that would work too.

There was a place i went to in Quebec City back in 07, I can't remember what it was called but they had about 6 different beers on tap of their own brew. I also visit Ottawa frequently, I've only been to a few pubs. The only micro brewed place I've been to is the Clock Tower. The food isn't all that fantastic but they beer is pretty good.
On Tap:
Falconers Galaxy IPA
Simcoe SMaSH
Topaz SMaSH
Cranberry Rye Saison
Monde Souterrain (Dark Saison)

In Ottawa/Hull hit up Les Brasseurs du Temps at an old mill in Hull. Great spot. Other than that I've no idea. If you're looking for bottles of beer for your collection the LCBO at King Edward & Rideau in Ottawa has a decent selection.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

I'll vouch for this. Requires you to cross the river at Quebec City, but this place is packed with stuff from QC's micros. Been several years since I've been but sounds like they're still getting in everything they can.jamiesavoie wrote:Dep de la rive!!!

Thanks. I'll probably hit up the two big LCBO flagships in Toronto later on in my travels, but I am hoping to get some neat bottles that you can't get in the LCBO. I would really like to get my hands on some US/Europe beers, but IMO QC micros are worth stocking up on too.benwedge wrote:In Ottawa/Hull hit up Les Brasseurs du Temps at an old mill in Hull. If you are just looking to grab some bottles and get back on the highway, the SAQ in Riviere du Loup was extremely well stocked (IMO) for what I expected. That was 18 months ago, but I found Samiclaus, Rogue Dead Guy, Duvel and a few others.

Re: Quebec beer store
there a decent brewpubs and micros breweries throughout PQ and Ont. As for stores in quebec I know if you go through tremeblant there used to be a really good beer importer but that was 5 years ago and well out of the way. Also it sounds stupid but sometimes even little depaneurs will carry some nice brews, also costco sell beer and it sells it very cheap (24*500ml cans of stella for 33$)
You would be driving right past VanKleek which has Beau's brewery which make a really nice couple of beers and come in very nice ceramic bottles. Church Key brewery is also on the way I do believe, if you go to Ottawa The Clocktower isn't bad (not that bad at least) and I think they planning on opening a mill street brewery aswell ( somewhere in the market). If you are travelling to toronto you could try Steamwhistle breweries located in the old roundhouse just beside the CN tower, also millstreet is downtown some where and if Im not wrong there are quite a few brewpubs and micros downtown To.
As for a store almost any LCBO will have similar products for the most part if I recall ( kind edward and rideau street carried the same products as some of the rinky dink stores well outside of the city) but the larger stores often have a "vintage" section for nicer wines and spirits.

There's an SAQ in the Montreal train station, much to my surprise. Mostly wine, but a few interesting things and the beer shelves were mostly empty and in the process of being re-stocked. I grabbed Yukon Espresso Stout & Mort Subite Kriek - I would have grabbed more, but my carry-on bag was already stuffed and ready to pop open.
