Shipyard

Post by canuck » Fri May 18, 2012 2:48 pm

I got back from the liquor store this afternoon (first time in awhile) and noticed that Shipyard is now available here in NB......specifically their Export and their IPA. I've had both before and really enjoyed them. Anyways, good to see Shipyard finally available here. Is it in available in PEI and NS?

A couple of other new beers available here in NB that I picked up today is Wells IPA from England and Waterloo Brewing's Authentic Amber and Original Dark. I haven't had those before so no idea if they are any good or not.

Waterloo Dark isn't bad. I think I've actually got a can of it in my beer fridge now. Haven't had the amber before.

I'm going to have to keep an eye out in Sackville for the Shipyard stuff, it doesn't look like they've got it in stock yet according to the ANBL website.

Yeah, the Dark isn't bad at all, somewhat like a schwarbier.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I had the Waterloo Dark last week in the new can... wasn't impressed. Rather metallic, I thought. The beer, not the can.

I'm having this now. I agree with you and am not overly impressed. I had the Wells IPA last night and wasn't really impressed with it either. Both Shipyards I thoroughly enjoyed though.

I have had the Waterloo Dark and found it quite good. The only Shipyard one I have had was the IPA and that was great. Not as good as Picaroons Yippee IPA but comparable to Propeller IPA IMO.

I totally agree Tony that the Fuggles IPA from Shipyard isn't as good as the Yippee. We don't exactly have a huge IPA selection in NB, but the Yippee and Garrison's IIPA are my favourites. What I'd really LOVE to see here in NB is a private store like Premier Wines in Halifax. Looking at their selection online is like heaven to me! :D

Yeah, well Shane, I don't have any selection of IPA here unless you count Keith's :wahh:

Wow, that Premier store sure do have lots I would like to try.

Ok, I don't feel as bad now Tony. I thought our IPA selection in NB sucked. :?

Damn, of all the Maine breweries to get... why couldn't it be Allagash, or Maine Beer Company, or Sebago, or Rising Tide...

Of course, Shipyard is a much bigger company, so it makes sense. At $2.95/bottle, though, it's pretty expensive.

Nice to see more Unibroue products hitting the shelves. Hopefully they make their way to Sackville so I can get my hands on a few six packs. I'm a big fan of the Noire and Blonde.

I haven't had the Noire or Blonde before but plan on picking some up this weekend. There is a new Banana Bread beer available here now as well that I plan on trying. Not sure how much I'll enjoy it, but I want to try it nonetheless.

I've tried the Wells Banana Bread beer, unfortunately. Thankfully, I didn't buy the bottle. It was a horrible, horrible mess. :eeew:

There were three of us that split the bottle and we all ended up pouring some down the drain. The bottle was a bit skunked as well so that definitely played a part in it. Yippee would be a much better choice IMHO.

I haven't heard good things about it either.

It apparently used to be a very much loved beer in the UK in past years but Wells started cutting costs by using more adjuncts and extracts in the beer and it sorta went to shit.

I had one a year or so ago on our field course and quickly passed it off to an undergrad with an iron stomach.

I visited Shipyard about two years ago and while their standard line up was pretty generic, from what I remember of their special edition 4 pack and a few of the other seasonals were awesome. I did NOT like the Smashed Blueberry they had at NSLC last summer though - I know a lot of guys did and it has decent reviews. Just not my thing I guess.
