I'm good. But ask Randy if he knows about the diacetyl problems in the bottles we get in town.

Whenever I ask a question like that the person becomes very defensive.

I was wondering what that flavour was in the pale ale I tried.chalmers wrote:I'm good. But ask Randy if he knows about the diacetyl problems in the bottles we get in town.

Yeah, I would say you'd have a better chance of being kicked down the well than getting any kind of acknowledgement of the situation.KMcK wrote:Whenever I ask a question like that the person becomes very defensive.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

I was looking at the prices if you could get me a growler of the Blue Heron Extra Special Bitter, Rojo Mojo Red Ale, Port in the Storm Porter that would be great. I do not have growler so would need new ones.

Sorry, I was gone by then and the pub didn't have wifi. I spent three hours there working and drinking (maybe not in that order) and would have liked to have been on-line (anyone connected with the Port listening?).homebrewcrew wrote:I was looking at the prices if you could get me a growler of the Blue Heron Extra Special Bitter, Rojo Mojo Red Ale, Port in the Storm Porter that would be great. Listening.LOL! I've brought it up as so have others, but nothing has been done about it yet; and I'm not sure why?
I just run the Kitchen, they don't listen to me!!

You run the kitchen? Well in that case, can you sneak me a steak on April 14th instead of whatever chicken dish the rest of the wedding party is getting?whisle pig wrote:Listening.LOL! I've brought it up as so have others, but nothing has been done about it yet; and I'm not sure why?

Edit: Seriously though, the chicken is fine, but if you're working that day I'd love to meet you and say hi.

It was awesome fresh, as always; especially after hiking for an hour along the dike from Wolfville in 28° heat. The view didn't hurt either. I just wish the patio furniture had been put out.HPhunter wrote:How did you like the beer at Sea level?
Did you have it on site or in bottles? If the latter then it was likely diacetyl. The fresh one I tried in the pub had a distinct lager taste to it, despite being an ale.papercrane wrote:I was wondering what that flavour was in the pale ale I tried.

I had it in the bottle. Definitely had a weird butterscotch note to it, at the time I thought maybe it was some weird speciality malt that I just didn't likeKMcK wrote: Did you have it on site or in bottles? The Blue Heron ESB was much more enjoyable though.

A cynic might say that that's because a little diacetyl isn't inappropriate in an ESBpapercrane wrote: The Blue Heron ESB was much more enjoyable though.

I'm in Kentville for the week and will likely be spending my suppers at Port Pub. Any suggestions for food there?

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Maybe tomorrow night, already ordered.
There is quite a difference in the beer on tap vs cans/bottles. I'm 2 beers in and have no complaints!
