Growing Hops

Post by Bobblack » Thu May 15, 2014 11:38 am

I will be receiving a small shipment of Hop Plants on Friday. I am getting one Viking, one Pacific Gem and two Hallertaur plants. I have grown gardens and other plants before. I have never doen hops. I have a friend who has a large yard and alot of southern exposure for them. I am wondering if there is anything special with planting them, like the PH or nutrients or critters I should worry about. Has anyone started hops and been succeful? and were they harvestable the first year?

You won't see much the first year. Animals can dig them up, especially if you use compost which probably smells like food to them.

They do grow tall after the first year, this was the third year I had them growing here before I moved them around the bay to my Brother-in-Laws place.

The sky is always blue, it's just that you can't see it for the clouds.

Hey going to be a nice one this weekend.
