I've been wanting to do an Iron Brewer type competition with the winning recipe being upscaled at the brewery for at least 5 years now, problem was being in a brewery where I could actually do this sort of thing. Five breweries later.... I'm in the right spot!LiverDance wrote:I was going to send Chalmers with this idea tonight but I was thinking of Iron Brewer style competition. 8 entries 4 times a year and the top 2 of each bracket compete and get judged by the brewnosers at the spring thaw event. All 32 entrants would be different either 1 person or teams of up to 3 so everyone gets a shot. Each of the 4 times we come up with an ingredient (s) and the brewers selected (random draw) can brew whatever style or non style they want as long as it has that ingredients(s). X it was your idea of brewing with corn flakes and a recent thread on HBT of brewing with reese coco puffs that spawned this idea. Let me know what you think.

We could use the judgings as practice sessions for the BJCP exam takers. (see Events Section on the Board).
I plan on being in this aft for my hop fix.

Really enjoyed the firkin and nitro jacktar tonight; purists might say that nitro can only be poor cousin to the cask beer, but I think your work here and at H&T shows some beers can be brewed for the nitro tap.
Were some brewnosers in a corner booth tonight? Ill have to impose and introduce myself next time.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the beer. It's fun trying new beers on nitrogen and the stout works wellNighthawk wrote:Really enjoyed the firkin and nitro jacktar tonight; purists might say that nitro can only be poor cousin to the cask beer, but I think your work here and at H&T shows some beers can be brewed for the nitro tap.

I was curious if you were going to pop on a prv and let that naturally carbonate.

No, I decided to move it off the fruit before carbonation to avoid issues, if I had a 2nd similar keg I'd do that for sure.

No idea what it cost, I just call and order stuff, tell them to put a rush on it and to deliver to me when it's done

That's a DME job? I estimate the price to be one arm and one leg, lol.

Re: Official Rockbottom Brewpub Thread
This Saturday we open the kitchen at noon! That may not seem like much of a big deal since everyone else is generally open anyways but yeah, it took a bunch of you guys showing up early and asking why,and considerable prying and prodding to get done.
To make it more worthwhile to come down early I'm throwing a firkin on the bar and cracking it at 1:00pm! It's a preview of the first Brewnosers Collaboration brew, formulated and brewed with mr x - Belgian Pale Ale, officially dubbed 'Brewnoser BPA'. The main batch will condition for another 4 - 6 weeks before it's tapped so the 'test' firkin should be fun
BTW, who wants some of the fresh T-58 yeast slurry?
Gravity - 13.1 P/1.053
ABV - 5.3%
IBUs ~ 29
Malt - Pilsner, Pale Ale, 2-row, Aromatic, Kiln Amber, Carastan, Munich
Hops - Hallertau Hersbrucker
Yeast - T-58

Well that's par for the course!mr x wrote:Damn, I be working Friday and Saturday night....

I still only have the one firkin otherwise I'd hold off, I made the plan with the powers that be to tap a firkin early in conjunction with the early kitchen opening.
