Sparge Water

Post by SMbrew36 » Fri Nov 25, 2016 8:39 am

How do you figure out the exact amount of sparge water needed ??

I'm now making the switch to all grain and will be batch sparing .

My first all grain mash will be 17 lb grain @ 1.25 L /LB = 21.25 L mashed at 153°f and I want to know how much sparge water at 170°c I should use to sparge. This will be a pilsner.

Here's a very thoughtful and detailed article on water volumes:

Or... you could be lazy and get Beersmith to calculate it for you  . Though, it will take a you a few brews to dial in your system and figure out your overall efficiency.
