New Goose Island at NSLC?

Post by wcturnedec » Fri Nov 25, 2016 10:03 am

So I stumbled across a bunch of new Goose Island beers on the NSLC site, a few days ago there appeared to be some stock of them at the Port but now they are gone.

They aren't searchable by name, I just found them by changing article (product #) in the URL, would be amazing if they do actually end up carrying these:

In most cases if they show up on that product list, they'll eventually show up in stores. Wouldn't be a big surprise with Goose Island since we've had Matilda and Sofie before. The new ownership has been good for distribution if not the quality.

For sure that's what I thought, it's just I've emailed them a few times to ask if they will actually carry them. They've only responded saying they will having a tasting of Gillian at The Port today (https://www.mynslc.com/en/NSLC-Events/E ... 12-14-2160" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and never mentioned anything about the others.

I think I read that Gillian was the only one that passed the LCBO testing. It is my understanding NSLC uses that data frequently

Ok that makes sense Todd. I chatted with the Goose Island rep at The Port yesterday and he mentioned they were hoping to bring in more of the Sour Sisters from GI, but they were not sure.

So the LCBO conducts testing internally or with the public?

I don't think that's correct, as there were none left when Todd and I were there @ 3:45 yesterday afternoon. They said 30 bottles were purchased before noon.

I believe the testing is more chemical/microbiological, rather than taste testing.

Check page 51 of this document, for example: http://www.doingbusinesswithlcbo.com/tr ... PPS_EN.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Weird, I chatted with the folks at NSLC and they said they weren't going on sale until the tasting started at 3PM, oh well! Good thing as I grabbed two of the last few bottles then!

Yes, I think you would have gotten some of the last ones.

By the way, I called The Port, and those 5 don't exist, so it's just slow in updating.

ISO, have a couple of beers that may be trade-worthy.

Lol, figured there DB was a little slow to update.

Perhaps you could put out a call to /r/halifax and see if anyone else has some of the Gillian.

I'd be willing to trade one of the bottles, PM me with what ya got!

The notorious LCBO lab. Once turned away a shipment of Cantillon destined for private order due to "Volatile Acidity" - i.e. it was sour. Though they do also check for abv. Apparently they once also turned down Dogfish Head 120 Minute because the abv was so far off they weren't even sure it was the beer it was supposed to be.

I admit I'm surprised to see they'd turn down Goose Island based on that kind of testing though. Can't imagine it getting through the internal QA at AB-InBev then failing the LCBO lab.

Still holding out hope NSLC gets in the remaining sour sisters, as of the most recent (Jan 2017) product list they are listed as "Coming Soon"

Looks like the NSLC was giving us a great deal on the Gillian....LCBO asking $35/bottle!
