DME and Yeast starters

So...I had (have) a bag of DME that i was using to make yeast starters with. Haven't used a starter in a while and as the pantry was being cleaned out I found what used to be powder has now solidified into a solid mass. If nothing else, it looks rather interesting. Very hard, very smooth.

What do you folks think? Is this normal and still useable or should I just chuck it. Wasn't a big bag, but i definitely know now to store it better next time.

Cheers!

Sounds like moisture got in. I would toss it. I'm sure you could cut it up or chunk it off with a knife it just might not be worth the effort. A boil will sanitise anything so if you want to use it you'd be fine. If you see mold etc definitely toss it.

I would toss it. Storing in airtight containers makes this problem disappear

Thanks for the replies guys. It was clearly a moisture issue, no question. Truth be told, I forgot I even had the stuff.

Thanks for the input. I think I might give it a go before tossing.
