The beers were pretty darn good. I was shocked at how good. They have some crazy spiced beers that work. Bottles are shaped like Orval, but hold a litre. €10 a bottle! The Imperial Stout thing was awesome. IPA on tap at the pub was like nectar after a week of mostly wine.
Didn't bring any back because I was able to bring wine worth so much more here than there it covered a chunk of my airfare.

Cool. We need some local reporters following the scene here.
I recently found out my best friend's brother, who lives in NH, is an award-winning home brewer, having won (among other awards) a Sam Adams competition to have his beer sold at the Patriot's stadium.

Yeah. I gave Marta a hard time for years over her boot choices, and now she just sort of waves randomly to point at some young lass whose footwear is uglier than hers. Of course, she forgets that I rarely notice their feet...

Wow, foolish. Probably still cheaper for the owner to pay the $1000 fine and continue buying beer in Quebec and selling at the bistro.

Fiddlehop. Well, that interview renews my cynacism about the value of a university education. 5 acres of hops with money fronted by Garrison on a five year contract. Harvested by volunteer and yet to turn a profit. Of course now you have a 'local' alternative to 'dry hops from far away'....o_0

Are the hops going to even be for sale to consumers? Or are they all being grown exclusively for Garrison?

i was going to mention something along these lines - hops do take a year or two to get established, as we all know. not getting a big harvest (and therefore not having a profit) the first two years isnt terribly surprising.

Yeah, but how long are you going to last on volunteer labour? Olands tried growing hop in NS in the 50's, and it didn't go well. You may very well not get a big harvest in this area of the country with the strains Garrison wants, ever. Unfortunately, CBC didn't archive the interview. At any rate, I'd be tearing those out now and planting haskaps berries.
