"Cape Breton's only craft breweries are both expanding to meet an unquenchable thirst for local beer, aiming to make their brews more available to people across Nova Scotia."

Not sure what happened but Rod Daigle left Downeast Beer Factory (probably not surprising) to join Propeller. I had heard Propeller's head brewer was leaving

I don't think so. It would be the guy who left him there for the night.

I used to know a guy who would wash his face with windex. Swore up and down it was the best acne cure of all time.

I still have yet to make a VT pilgrimage, though there's a chance it could be this fall. Hopefully we won't have any trouble picking up Heady!

With the ANBL dropping the price on some macros, I find it interesting that Moosehead is complaining, especially after spotting this article:

Ha, good call!

They were complaining it was a "participate or perish" type of thing, but obviously they'll be making some money off of it. Or maybe hoping that noone takes part.

Am I missing something? Boxing Rock bought some advertising and instantly their beer started to suck?

By buying advertising, they are supporting the CH business rather than he long-striking workers. So people who are sympathetic to the workers now won't want to buy boxing rock. I also won't comment!
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

It makes sense. Some purists would decry decisions on what beer to buy that were based on metrics other than quality, but the way I see it there are a ton of good breweries in the province so it's not like you can't boycott one or two and still be drinking great beer every day (even if you don't brew). I don't think I'd let that stop me from trying an interesting new boxing rock beer, but they already weren't the kind of brand I was buying regularly and I think technically I did swear an oath in my own union membership to not undertake any anti-union activities, to support other workers in their struggle for collective bargaining, other unions etc and while obviously the carpenter's union wouldn't kick me out for buying boxing rock, that oath would make buying beer from someone who gives money to scabs a bit of a gray area.

I think the real test is what boxing rock's response is to the backlash since the most likely scenario for their ads appearing currently is that they just plain didn't think about the labour dispute when they (or whatever marketing group they hired to manage ads) bought the ad space. If these complaints are brought to them and they still buy more in CH, then I'd probably be likely to sour a little on their business.

The beer didn't just start to 'suck'. There have been QC issues common to most of the other new breweries in this province. This ad should be addressed though. The newspaper business needs an epic change of course, but Lever has made an equally epic mess of the situation. Advertising with the CH is inexcusable IMHO, so hopefully they have a legitimate explanation.

Judging by the availability of BR gift cards through the CH shop for a couple of years now, it's possible that BR entered into a long-term advertising contract long before anyone knew there was a labour dispute in the offing. If that's the case, their contract may not let them withdraw or request that CH stop running BR ads.

Regardless of whether or not it's possible for BR to stop these ads I would hope to hear something from explaining their position.
