There seems to be a lot of discussion about this. Some finance minister it is only 5 cents a case. I rarely buy it since I of course make my own. Love some of the responses on facebook, pretty funny.
Seems to me that this is just a ploy by the big breweries to keep millions more in profit; not so much for the little guys. I highly doubt this will increase the price of beer relative to how much it's gone up by already. I mean, almost $50 for a 24 of Keiths?

It's at least good that the tax increase is being tied to something tangible like inflation or whatever they are proposing.

So it seems that the whisky in BC was confiscated because it was purchased through private stores rather than the government. How is that even a policy in BC, and who decided to waste all those government resources to "raid" the bars for something that has already been taxed?

That's not a good look. I just read an article on CBC's website and the comments from the brewery are very unapologetic. Sounds like these guys are into this design (money and time) and have their heels dug in.

The noose is in bad taste, but I feel like the people screaming RACISM are just looking for something to be mad about.

Why is a noose in bad taste? We've Hangman Beach and Gibbet Point on McNabs Island where pirates and criminals were executed and displayed...so all pirate and criminal descendants should be up in arms...is there a history of lynching people from oak trees in Yarmouth or in that area? If folks are offended then don't buy the beer ffs. If folks are offended by bad language, then don't buy the beer. I'm sure we've got brewers here that feel the same way. Some people...have way too much time on their hands...put it to better use by (a) brewing beer or (b) drinking beer. That being said...I'm going to definitely buy beer from their brewery now that PC fvcktards have drawn it to my attention. And I've not even had a beer yet!

I happen to like the use of the noose...not in a racist context but for some capital transgressions...seriously. And since you disagree, well...there's lots of people on opposite sides of capital punishment. I guess you wouldn't like my Maughers Beach Hangmans Ale then...

So would a lynching had to have happened in your own backyard, or would your neighbour's yard be too close to home for you? The connotation of any human being on earth getting lynched should be enough for you to get it.

The brewers have gone so far to acknowledge that the "Tusket Hanging Oak" was used for hanging meat by butchers. So why on earth would they put a noose on the logo when it doesn't even match the historical context they're claiming to convey?

I "get it" likely more than you'll ever know son. Refer to my usage of the noose. The co-owner admitted that a meathook might've been better. That being said, my BIL is a First Nations trapper and hunter and stated that they've strung carcasses up to hang by the leg with a noose knot rather than a hook. Personally, as I've earlier suggested you wouldn't like my Maughers Beach Hangmans Ale...nor would you have ever drank Toby, White beer or Black Ale.

I could care less about the noose, but I am offended by the bad marketing practices from a new player into a local beer market with plenty of options. The real point is...." If folks are offended then don't buy the beer". Exactly, safe assumption Tusket Falls entered the market to sell beer and this certainly will not help given there are boycott threads all over social media.

And the owner could have righted the ship today on Maritime Noon but he came off unapologetic with the lame hanging meat and historical excuses.....outside of the tiny local population, who cares? I hope Tusket Falls Brewing corrects this silly marketing misstep quickly, as I heard their beer is pretty good.

What do you think of this?
“Governments are involved in all sorts of activity that they need not be, which distracts from other priorities. A modern economy does not require the government to retail, wholesale, or distribute alcohol,” said AIMS President Marco Navarro-Génie, adding “privatization is long overdue”

Kde se pivo vaří, tam se dobře daří. Where beer is brewed, life is good.

Well yes...good points all - and tactfully put. See, all it took was a couple beer for me to see the light. I still like my Maughers Beach Hangmans (Pale) Ale

Comes down the same as most freedom of speech things ... you may be free to say what you want, but if you're an unapologetic asshole about the rascist connotations of your beer label, it's probably gonna affect how it sells.

Re: Tusket, the can actually has a local story (folklore?) on it about a local who was to be hung on the oak, the branch broke, some other stuff happened, etc. Without context the image might imply lynching, but only if you make zero effort to learn about the beer/local landmark and immediately assume the worst. It probably could have done without the noose, but it certainly was not meant to be racist in any way. I know folks from the south shore and they all know where Hanging Oak is.

It was obvious that the label was going to change. From what I hear, the brewery was receiving multiple complaints from "groups". Better to move on.

On another note, anyone try the Smoked Kiack? Finally someone making a smoked beer with some kick.

Unfiltered & RSMA. Shitty news on this one, looks like it's business as usual for the NS breweries.
