Apparently there is 58 microbreweries in NS. There seems to be a few I don't knowcagiva650 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 9:21 am"Nova Scotia Liquor Corp., which is in the uniquely conflicted position of being both a retailer and the regulatory agency for alcohol," In Newfoundland the situation is even more ridiculous. The NLC is regulator, retailer and producer. Competing with and regulating its own clients. The very definition of conflict of interest. In Newfoundland, we too, love our bureaucracies.

Hmm, the article doesn't mention why the craft brewers association wants chill street to not be labelled as a microbrewery. Are there perks to the label or do they object to what is essentially a fest-a-brew brewery?

'There is no brewing if you're not boiling something'
We have the Salty Dog Fermenting Co in Truro (I refuse to call it a brewery). Drives me crazy selling themselves as truro's first craft brewery and the whole support local reference.
If they won't change the liquor act to reflect that, then people need to be informed about the difference. I've told several people about the differnce and it always changes their perception. And if that doesn't sway their decision...usually i hear from them how bad the beer actually is (talking about the one on Truro)...can't comment on Chill St., but I refuse to ever support something like that.

Not something I would get upset about. If they can make good beer go for it. If they can't people will buy something else.

Brewers make wort, yeast make beer. If you're not making wort than you're not a brewery.

"the one or two instances"
So this is ultimately a non issue. When I brought that up on Twitter the author of that article called me a dickhead and then blocked me. Real progressive

Re: Beer in the news
To me it's more of a general statement rather than re-shaping the industry. Just something to promote the idea that craft brewers should be "better" than multinationals that only look at the bottom line. Personally, I have no issue with folks marketing however they see fit. As a consumer, though, I will spend my money on those who seem to care about more than just how much money they can make.
Kind of odd that you would not get a constructive response, though.
I was reading more about the American BA code of conduct and the blow-up with Flying Dogs over it. Makes me want to avoid Flying Dogs when I travel now. It's one thing to disagree with others, and it's something entirely different to write a six page essay on how you've been wronged. Kinda like those brewers who sell out to the big boys and then complain when people say they won't buy their beer anymore.

I actually didn't block you and you didn't mention the "one or two instances." You tweeted that CBANS was "virtue signalling" and I suggested that people who use that term are mostly dickheads, threatened by people standing up for something they believe in. I didn't get the impression you wanted to, or were equipped to, have an informed dialogue on the subject

You claim to want an informed conversation but your retort consists of personal attacks on someone else's knowledge of the subject instead of logical arguments... oh the hypocrisy...Ben Johnson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 5:14 pmI didn't get the impression you wanted to, or were equipped to, have an informed dialogue on the subject

Nice piece on the upcoming Supreme Court case re: beer importation into NB. It even mentions that NL is the reason Fedex won't ship booze within Canada.

Restaurant is closed, but maybe they will continue to make beer for the LC? I'm not marking them as closed on untappd just yet.

I spoke to Dave (Brewer) last week. It was all but done. Location, location, location. NSLC beer is not an option (from what I heard).

Kde se pivo vaří, tam se dobře daří. Where beer is brewed, life is good.
