I didn't listen to that one, but did listen to the letters in response, today. Somebody said one reason for the decline was the number of kids in pubs, because pubs, to make a profit, were having to become restaurants. I thought that pretty odd (not that kids would be the death of the pub...) because here I've always heard bar owners complain about laws making them sell food - because you can't make a profit on food.

Now, what would really kill the pub is public health laws preventing dogs! In the aptly named "Dog & Gun" in Keswick, there was a dog under every table. I hope there wasn't a gun too.
