Bitter Daze IPA

I had some in the Port pub today, and I am enjoying a growler here now :mmm: . It is definitely a unique aroma - I am not sure how to describe it, definitely on the floral side (maybe even bubblegum?). The hop profile is definitely different from most IPAs, in a good way. Randy's hatred of Cascade really comes through on this one: Phoenix-Northdown-Horizon and dry-hopped with Horizon.

I think this is the first one with the batch of maritime malt from NB although I am sure Titus, being the man who invented beer, has probably managed to produce something with the maritime malt already.

Dry-hopped with Horizon. Interesting. I've been wanting to try that strain for bittering. Never considered dry-hopping it. :geek:

Actually, wasn't there a batch of Hopyard that was supposed to be Maritime malt and hops? I seem to recall that being announced just before the Fog Burner came out.

LiverDance and I picked up a few bottles around 7pm, still had a few left.

The beer was quite bitter, as advertised, but I did not get much aroma. Not as balanced as I would have liked.

I grabbed some too, and this matches my impression. Lots of resiny bitterness but little hop flavour or aroma from late additions. The malts that were present were nice, they just got overwhelmed by the bitterness.

I got a grower of Granite Brewery's Hopping Mad too. This one's got a much better balance to it. I still wouldn't call it an IPA, but it's a very good hoppy pale ale.
