If anyone is contemplating a trade with "North York Sammy" (BA handle) in Ontario, either now or in the future, just a friendly warning that it might not be a good idea. Figured I'd save anyone the headache of dealing with this guy.

A bit of both, I'll tell you about it on Friday. I've had enough of this week.

Been there too. He delivered, but different beer than what was agreed upon. Have heard a few odd stories about him at tastings too.

Yup, that's it exactly. He waited to send until after he got mine, and then substituted a different beer for one of the ones we had agreed on (that's not easy to get and I really wanted) When I asked why, he suggested that it was completely acceptable because the beer was worth the same value and I should have assumed that was what he was doing. He then suggested that since one of the beers he was sending was in the BA Top 100 and I only had to walk to the brewery to get the BA Fogburner he wanted that it was only fair. On his second reply after I questioned all this ridiculous "logic", he said he sent our running dialogue to an "experienced trader who agreed that what he did was perfectly acceptable"
I'm not surprised to hear he burned someone else, though it hardly makes me happy.

I'm assuming you ripped him on BA.

I didn't think much of it at the time. I was going to Toronto and just brought some of Propeller's regulars. Told him how much I paid for them and said if he wanted to return the favour, just match the amount. Suggested that a single bottle of lambic would be great to cut down on his shipping. Later on got a message on Ratebeer saying he'd try. Then got a follow-up with a list of 4 or 5 US Micros, no lambic. Eventually got 4 or 5 US micros, but few the same as in the original list. Mostly seemed like he sent stuff he already had on hand that he just wanted to get rid of. That was years ago. Surprised that he hasn't had more bad feedback since.

After talking to some regular trading partners, apparently this guy is notorious for this kind of shit and has done it to multiple people. I really hate to go down that road, but a thread on BA is likely coming up pretty soon when I'm done with some things this week. An isolated case is one thing, but this is different. I don't want more people getting burned.
