I took a few mins this morning to sort out our local winners... don't think anyone else posted the full local list yet.

PEI Brewing Company's Sir John A's Honey Wheat Ale won a medal again, taking home silver
Acadie-Broue Inc's Tintamarre won bronze
Halifax's Rockbottom Brewpub won a bronze with its Insidious IBA
Propeller Brewing Co. won a silver with their Bohemian-Style Pilsener
Pump House won a silver and two bronze with their Premium Lager, Pail Ale, and Blueberry Ale, respectively
From Moosehead Breweries - Alpine Lager and Alpine Light each won gold, Moosehead Lager won silver, and Cracked Canoe Premium Light Lager won a bronze

:cheers2:

No prob. Eleven medals ain't too shabby. Something tells me it's the same Atl. Cdn total as last year?
I wonder how many brews in total from here were submitted (incl. NL).

No entries? I don't think Picaroons entered either, and they won BOTY in 2011. BUT, they announced Freddy will host the Gala Awards Dinner/Conference next year, which I think is terrific, as some of us can go and cheer on Maritime beer.

 The judge's task is to guess correctly what exactly is floating in the beer.

I find it hard to believe Garrison or Picaroons would not have entered a single beer. Just didn't have anything medal-worthy, would be my guess.

Both were present at the CBAs for some collab brew.

Well, after cleaning up in 2011, Picaroons has probably been saving marketing money for other things. I know other breweries have done that, as do wineries in the wine competitions I judge. Take a year off, let someone else win ;)

But we could always directly ask both breweries if they entered and, if not, why not?

Guys, no mystery here, sometimes it just doesn't happen. Almost 800 entries means 85% don't medal. Garrison typically gets 3-5 & Picaroon's was 2011 Brewery of the Year - both went to Vic & came back empty. Phillip's is on fire in BC & was a gracious host for the weekend - also blanked. The event is increasingly about the conference, trade show & networking - & some amazing beer of course. Regardless, I saved TAPS the postage & I'm off to hand Rockbottom & Propeller their bronze & silver. Next year - Fredericton! Cheers, Brian

Thanks for clarifying, Brian. And I am so excited about Fredericton next year! You are totally right about how hard it is to win. That's because there is only 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze in each category, and I bet some cats get 20-30 entries, maybe more. The national wine comps I judge at give multiple medals just for this reason (we judged 1300 entries this week - and some categories had over 60 entries - I judged 54 Meritages in one go! Can you imagine the anger if we only gave 3 medals out of 54, when 25-30 of them were excellent wines?), and then give a best of class to the highest scorer in each category. I think the beer comp should be done the same way. I bet there is no statistical difference between the average scores of many of the non-medalling beers compared to the Bronze winners.

Here is an example of what I mean about multiple medals. Check out the winners in this list from the comp I judged last week. Note the Atlantic winners too!
