Warning - Great Canadian Beer Expo
Does anyone know anything about this event? What beers and breweries will be there?

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
$25.00 entry and $1.00 per 4oz sample without a list of breweries?

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
I don't mind the price, but would never buy a ticket without knowing what breweries will be there. Certainly not going to pay to go drink Moosehead, Labatts, Coors, etc. I sent them a message asking what breweries are participating, but haven't heard anything yet.

I also asked for more information to post on the blog, but they don't have a list yet (or one they were willing to share).
They'd mentioned wanting to partner with local groups, so I made sure to mention us, seeing as we're local at all of their stops!

The whole thing sounds shady to me, like the people who tried this a few years ago. Anyone remember that?

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
This is the reply that I got on FB.
I've never heard of this event before, would I be correct in assuming this is the first year for it?
We are awaiting final approval from ANBL, NSLC & PEILCC on our beer selections for our expos. As soon as final approval is given from them, we will post it! Then, we hope to be able to add a few others based on feedback

If they're looking to close ticket sales by the 22nd, they better hope the LC's hurry up with approvals.

Wondering now if that's just early bird pricing.jeffsmith wrote:If they're looking to close ticket sales by the 22nd, they better hope the LC's hurry up with approvals.

I'd like to know how you run 1500 people per session through an event without volunteers, which they don't want....

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
You'll not likely see any craft brewers there, well, not any sane ones!
They plan to have the event in 6 maritime cities. Fee for booths is FREE for brewers!!!! All you need to do is show up with lots of beer and proceed to give it all away. Remember, it's FREE for brewers to give away their beer. The best part of the whole thing is.... brewers MUST attend and give away beer at ALL SIX events!!! From Sydney to Halifax to St John to blah blah yadda yadda...
Any craft brewer that's going to send staff and beer to all six events, give it away, pay for transportation, hotels and meals etc. Honestly, I can't imagine anyone taking part aside from the big boys and perhaps the crazies

Holy shit, you've got to be kidding me? To have a requirement of attending ALL six of them as a brewer is completely asinine!!

Fuck that shit then. I'll save my money, drive to Halifax, and drink beer at the RB for an evening instead.

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
Doesn't sound like anything I'd be interested in.
I'm not down with paying all night...I like to pay at the gate for the entire evening
You could take that cash and go to your favorite pub.

Yes, I do. Put together by a couple of Business students if I recall as part of a course presentation if I recall...mr x wrote:The whole thing sounds shady to me, like the people who tried this a few years ago. Anyone remember that?

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
Response to my inquiry:
Good afternoon Derek,
We have a tentative beer list but we are awaiting final approval from ANBL, NSLC & PEILCC on our beer selections for our expos. As soon as final approval is given from them, we will post them.
All our beer for our expos will be bought directly through ANBL, NSLC & PEILCC so the breweries will most definitely be compensated.
Regards,
The GCBE Team

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
I think it's a bit much to pay $25 to get into the event and then $3 per 12oz beer. That's quite the cover charge.

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
More questions ... and responses:
Thanks for the response. So, does that mean that only beer available in NSLC will be available for the Halifax leg of your journey? If so, it really appears that the expo will be missing out on some great brew by Bridge, Hell Bay, Sea Level, Rogues, Rock Bottom, and Big Spruce to name a few.
Without a beer listing or participating brewery list we have a hard time paying for a ticket up front. Ticket sales appear to end on Sunday of this week. Will you have a list out before that?
Thanks,

Hey Derek,
Sorry I should have clarified a bit more. All the beers at our expos have to be purchased through NSLC. However, they do allow for some beers that aren't currently on NSLC shelves. But I believe getting those beers approved is where the holdup may be.
Also, we're leaving a few spots open to get feedback from people on which ones they want to see added.
I completely understand the desire to wait until a list of beers is released. We are pushing hard to get provincial approval completed as quickly as possible.
This Sunday is just the end of our pre-sale. There should be lots of tickets available ongoing.
However, what I'll do is hold 2 tickets for you just in-case it sells out quickly. If or when you are ready to purchase, just let us know.
As soon as we get the NSLC approval, I will personally send that list along to you right away.

Re: Great Canadian Beer Expo
I contacted these people as well, with the same responses I've read in this thread.
I likely won't buy any tickets to this event... I can't imagine going to a Beer event in Cape Breton and not seeing Big Spruce there.
Maybe we could promote a rock concert, sell tickets, and then possibly release the band list after the tickets are sold. Seems to make about as much sense as this Beer Expo.
