Health Benefits of Beer

Post by CiderBeerWine » Mon Jan 05, 2015 1:21 pm

Hi, my boss at work was asked to help a journalist with preparing an article for the NY times (I believe) on the health benefits of beer. I have been looking for scientific studies on this topic, and I also figured that this may be a great place to get some information. I am not looking for "common knowledge" but more scientific studies like benefits for groups of people or say measurements of antioxidant levels or nutrients etc...

If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it. And no I don't think I will be an author for this or get any benefit myself from this but I find it interesting enough to take part anyways.

Thanks :cheers2:

You will likely find many studies on the health benefits of alcohol in moderation. Those studies should also be of relevance to beer. Initially a glass of red wine daily was recommended for cardioprotection. More recently that's moved to beer also (in moderation).

I've collected a number of scientific articles related to beer and health. Let me know the best way for me to share them with yah (via email, Dropbox, ?).

You can also look for Charlie Bamforth's Beer: Health and Nutrition book (I currently have a copy from Dal): http://www.amazon.ca/Beer-Nutrition-Cha ... 0632064463" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers to beer,

Josh

Beer keeps your kidneys healthy, dark beer contains up to one gram of soluble fibre* in each 30 cl glass, Fibre plays an important role in intestinal transit, Beer can increase your vitamin B levels, Beer reduces your risk of a heart attack, helps prevent blood clots, helps combat stress and makes skin more beautiful.
