Just add Canadian into the front of your favourite style and make it happen. I don't know of any authentic styles that originated here. Doesn't mean it won't happen tho.

That's what I do. APA to me is CPA. I can name it anything I want. But, looking at the style guidelines, yea, we are no where to be found.

There's an Ontario Pale Ale I've seen mentioned in some books. American hops in a bitter, malty pale ale that came up at the end of the 90s brew pub phase but long before the current craft beer phase. Mill Street Tankhouse is an example. You could also argue that Quebec's approach to the IPA before about last year (Le Castor, Moralite/Disco Soleil) is a pretty Canadian style. Bitter American-ish IPAs with a slight Belgian-ish spice component. "Montreal-style IPA" they used to call them at Volo.

Also whatever infection I've got in this porter I just made (from our cook Joe shoving his finger into it on the cold side) is definitely native microflora and thus a purely Canadian style exhibiting local terroir ;)

Maybe the quebec strong "belgian" beers from Unibrue, not very unique, but still different from the belgian counterparts somehow.

I also remember reading something about cream ales being Canadian, not sure where though.

There's the ol' "east-coast style IPA" alluded to by some local breweries - if I had to describe it, I'd say caramel sweetness, moderate to high diacetyl, strong hop bitterness, low hop flavour and aroma.

I think that birch beer and spruce beer are traditional styles. And I think that brewers in Quebec are working on developing their own Quebec style that uses a specific yeast strain someone harvested from some old brewery. I poked around Google for a bit but I'm on my phone and it isn't returning results in French and the source I read was a French blog. I will try to find the name of
When I get home. I think it is along the lines of Tidal Bay wines here.

I agree. Not so much beer as fermented molasses drink but definitely has strong Canadian (Aboriginal/First Nations) roots.

One could make an argument that the styles listed in the Canadian Brewers Awards are North American/Canadian. (Molson Ice anybody?)

As for a real Canadian beer, I would think most American beers would fall under that catagory and you could substitute Canadian for American

Apparently Montreal and Vancouver brew their cream ale a little different than the rest of North America. There's an interesting article at:
