Grand Rapids Beer Scene

Post by John G » Sun Aug 09, 2015 11:26 am

I was in Grand Rapids last week. I was unaware it was voted beer city of america a few years ago. Founders is big there. What was great was going to a local Whitecaps minor league ball game at First and Third stadium and having access to a craft beer section with lots on tap. I was expecting it to be a bud/coors/miller night, which were on promo for $2 per 20oz cup, but I happily paid $7 for a 20 oz of Founder's Dirty Bastard and the same for a Bell's Two Hearted IPA. The game was good too although I'm not much into baseball, but it was good to go with someone who used to be a Triple A umpire for a different perspective. I didn't get a chance to go to any breweries while in Grand Rapids, but will try to hit up the Founders Taproom next time to try some one-offs and seasonals.

$7 is a great price. How about $11.50 for bud at the jays game? I didn't mind though, since it was great to be there. I did notice beer sales were busy. I wonder what would happen if those cans were selling for $2 like in Grand Rapids?

I was expecting to have to pay $11.50 or higher for a bud/coors/miller, seeing it was a ballgame. It was great to have an actual tasty beer - I was not expecting it.

$2 beer at a game goes against "responsible consumption" regulations around here, who knows what might happen :chug:
