I'm currently looking into places I could go to learn how to brew like a champ. Does anyone here have any recommendations? I'd prefer to stay in NS but it doesn't look like that's possible from my research. All help is appreciated! Cheer!

Have you brewed anything at home yet? Also, there might be a NS option...

I think Lorne (ex of Rogues Roost) is at Dal. I don't know what the program is though.

I have brewed at home! A few times now. Actually, right now I'm making a Pale Ale dry hopped with Amarillo!

So the only course they offer is Brewing Science and I have to take Food Microbiology as a prereq? Ugh. Go Dal!

Is the goal to learn how to brew, or to open a brewery?
Learn at home from these online courses, perhaps?

If you want to stay in Canada, to the best of my knowledge you have three options for formal academic degrees:
1. (BC)
http://www.kpu.ca/brew" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2. (Alberta)
http://oldscollege.ca/programs/hospital ... anagement/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3. (Ontario)
http://www.niagaracollege.ca/content/Pr ... ement.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Aside: It isn't really fair to fault Dalhousie for not offering more beer courses or requiring a perquisite for their one course. They don't have a brewing program! Rather, they have some researchers working in the science, and a program in food science. It isn't at all unreasonable to require food science students to have a basic level of familiarity with the broader aspects of their discipline before taking a specialized course. (Says the grumpy college professor!)

Lots of engineering schools...seems to be the standard education to become a brewer in NS

I believe the man may have been talking about..... American Brewer's Guild. As an alum I have the ability to mentor through the the course and apprenticeship, including administering exams
