I bumped into the Horton Ridge people at Paddy’s last week. They are local organic farmers of some repute. The construction of their malt house is well under way. The first in NS. It’s a CDIF project. I think it might be organic. I didn’t ask them though.

I see a mention of this before but didn’t come across a thread.

We're really excited about this. Al is a great farmer/doer/all around good guy. 5th or 6th generation on that land, and a five minute drive from my valley home. He's starting with his own rye, and bringing in some malting material, while he works on getting more local farmers on board. Its a great fit because so many small family farms in the valley already have the know-how and equipment to grow and process grain. I think he's planning to malt around 1 tonne per batch, but the facility will have a few batches in various stages of the process on the go at one time. Its all certified organic but will pretty well match current organic base malts in price, without having to pay hundreds per skid in shipping. A great idea brought to life by great local farmer.

I was excited just talking to them. I think I caught some of their enthusiasm in that picture.
