Hi all,

I should start by saying that I am fairly new to the Maritimes, so forgive my ignorance. This summer, while out exploring the region valley I stumbled across Sea Level Brewing and was very happy I did. I was wondering if anyone had a list of current breweries or brewpubs for the Maritime region? Right now I am particularly interested in anything along the 104/4 since I am headed to Cape Breton this weekend, but I think having an active list of operating places would maybe encourage visits to otherwise out of the way locations.

I think the one in Saint John is called big tide, but I am not sure.
There is also the one in Wolfville, which I forget its name.

It's Big Tide in in Saint John and Paddy's Pub in Wolfville and Kentville. We also have Rouge's Roost, Granite, and Rock Bottom here in Hali.

Well, as the resident GIS/cartographer/map geek who has access to the latest, most up-to-date NS geographic data - what are your ideas? Google maps? An actual map (digital or otherwise)?

Actually I was thinking of making a Halifax city map on The Beer Mapping Project. The Halifax info on there now is quite old. If you want to do a glossy printed map using government resources that we could sell, that would be cool too.

For shits n giggles & personal use, yes (except it won't be glossy). For sale, no - not unless you want to pay royalties back to the province and pay for custom processing fees and data licenses.

I'm certainly willing to change the permissions on it so that everyone can edit it. Halifax people certainly know better than I do what the best watering holes are.

Later, I want to see if I can color code them - breweries, brewpubs and bars/restaurants with decent selection.

Hey Andy,
I have access to a tonne of geospatial data. If you are interested in working on a map together, something a little more refined then Google maps for us to print out. All the data would be under academic license, as long as we don't sell it. It's educational right?

What GIS software do you work in? I really like the idea of a colour code.

Although now that I think about it, a big plus to the google map is that we can all take the pressure off you to keep it updated.

I use ESRI ArcInfo & ArcMap. Do you have NB & PEI data? That's tricky for me to get my hands on (well, current data anyway).

Google is a start, but that doesn't mean it can't migrate to something else later on...
