Microbrews/brewpub

Hi all,

I should start by saying that I am fairly new to the Maritimes, so forgive my ignorance. This summer, while out exploring the region valley I stumbled across Sea Level Brewing and was very happy I did. I was wondering if anyone had a list of current breweries or brewpubs for the Maritime region? Right now I am particularly interested in anything along the 104/4 since I am headed to Cape Breton this weekend, but I think having an active list of operating places would maybe encourage visits to otherwise out of the way locations.

Cheers, :cheers3:

Edit: I threw together this little map: http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?msid=2173 ... ,16.853027" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its certainly not complete, but I'll start the list, but I'll try and refrain from any editorializing/opinions - you can form your own opinions when you get to try them.

Picaroons - Fredericton, NB
Pumphouse - Moncton, NB
Acadie-Broue - Moncton, NB
?? - Saint John, NB
BarNone - Rose Valley, PEI (Soon to be??)
Gahan House - Charlettetown, PEI
Sea Level - Port Williams, NS
Propeller - Halifax, NS
Garrison - Halifax, NS

Hart & Thistle - Halifax, NS --> :headbang:

Hell Bay - Cherry Hill, NS

I think the one in Saint John is called big tide, but I am not sure.
There is also the one in Wolfville, which I forget its name.

It's Big Tide in in Saint John and Paddy's Pub in Wolfville and Kentville. We also have Rouge's Roost, Granite, and Rock Bottom here in Hali.

Rogue's Roost, unless Lorne likes to dress up as a woman and that was his subtle way to tell us.

If you make it over this way you can get a decent pint at the Yellow Belly in St. John's.

We should have a sticky. I also thought that we should have a place to show what pubs in town carry good beers. Any thoughts?

It's time for a Halifax beermap.

Well, as the resident GIS/cartographer/map geek who has access to the latest, most up-to-date NS geographic data - what are your ideas? Google maps? An actual map (digital or otherwise)?

Edit: What's the name of the BrewPub in Yarmouth? Rudder's ?

Actually I was thinking of making a Halifax city map on The Beer Mapping Project. The Halifax info on there now is quite old. If you want to do a glossy printed map using government resources that we could sell, that would be cool too.

For shits n giggles & personal use, yes (except it won't be glossy). For sale, no - not unless you want to pay royalties back to the province and pay for custom processing fees and data licenses.

Here's what I threw into Google Maps: http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?msid=2173 ... 5c81&msa=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm certainly willing to change the permissions on it so that everyone can edit it. Halifax people certainly know better than I do what the best watering holes are.

Nice start, Andy.

It's "Laundromat", not "Laudromat", and you need:

The Garrison District Ale House
428 Queen Street
Fredericton, NB

I know that's just a start, but man, there's a lot of barren areas on that map.

There sure are! Keep firing suggestions at me - in this thread, PM me or use andy@brenosers.org (might as well use it for something).

Later, I want to see if I can color code them - breweries, brewpubs and bars/restaurants with decent selection.

Hey Andy,
I have access to a tonne of geospatial data. If you are interested in working on a map together, something a little more refined then Google maps for us to print out. All the data would be under academic license, as long as we don't sell it. It's educational right? :)

What GIS software do you work in? I really like the idea of a colour code.

Although now that I think about it, a big plus to the google map is that we can all take the pressure off you to keep it updated.

I use ESRI ArcInfo & ArcMap. Do you have NB & PEI data? That's tricky for me to get my hands on (well, current data anyway).

Google is a start, but that doesn't mean it can't migrate to something else later on...
