Although living in Edmonton I'm a maritimer. I've been brewing on and off (mostly off) for 15 years or so. Chamlers (inventor of the thumb plug brewing technique) and I brewed can kits a number of years ago before he moved back. Every trip back to NS I'd sit in envy of Chalmer's brewery and kegerator which inspired me to start brewing again. I picked up all the necessary equipment for kegging, which was a little more costly then I had anticipated. By my calculations I'll need to become a raging alcoholic for the next 8.333 years to break even.
Right now I'm brewing kits from The brew house. Initially they were straight brews but the latest two I've decided to try kit hacking. The latest is an IPA kit that I'm trying to turn into an ESB with dry hopping and wyeast 1028 (the local home brew shop had no 1968.) The previous kit was a Munich Dark Lager which I turned into a Bock, and by turned into, I mean I only added 4 L of water instead of 8. It's an old family recipe. At some point I'll probably try a batch of mead.
Next spring I plan on picking up a mash tun and boil kettle. I should be able to cause a good amount of damage with those.
So far I have a two tap kegerator with plans to add another couple of taps in the near future. I'm waiting until I have enough kegs to hook them all up at the same time but have run into a bit of a problem. With one primary and one secondary, I'm drinking my beer as fast as I can brew it. I appear to have reached beer equilibrium.
