Hooked in Halifax

Post by BenFrank » Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:48 am

Hi guys,

Just a quick intro.

Heard about you guys at a Nobal Grape, then sampled a delicous beer at RockBottom that had something to do with Brewnoses (receipe by a forum member maybe?)

That night I went home and started on a mission... First, decode that delicous Chipotle Chicken Pasta receipe (DONE) next, dive into homebrew!

My father in law got me started, and since then I've done 3 Festa Brews myself, and helped him with a morgans kit...

I'm going to do a few more entry level kits then move onto a partial grain!

What an exciting hobby.

With a few hundred bottles going, I'm also looking into a Kegorator, already have a beer fridge!

With endless beer on tap - How do you guys keep from gaining tones of weight and being perminately shitfaced all the time??

Cheers!

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I run marathons, and cycle or walk just about everywhere. I move my car once per week on average. :welcome:
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

LOL.

I haven't handled the putting on a ton of weight bit - and you'll notice that it's mostly the young guys in this hobby that aren't packing a little extra...

As for being permanently shit-faced, I try to brew mostly lower gravity beers. That doesn't do much to prevent adding weight - unfermented starches are just as fattening as alcohol - but it means I can drink 3 pints a day.

:welcome:
Currently on tap: Nothing!
In keg: Still nothing.
In Primary: Doggone American Rye Pale Ale

You'll soon find that you have a large number of friends willing to help out with all that surplus beer. :spilly:

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

First, welcome.

I have a sizeable beer gut for my size but I'm trying to get rid of it without exercise or dieting.. just using the power of my mind. So far
I'm shit out of luck.

And I like to brew session beer so I can have a few pints without being shitfaced all the time.

 There are some great responses here. Like Jeff I don't seem to have time to be shitfaced, although it does sneak up on you. Especially at meetings when there is so much tasty beer to try (at least our meetings out here in SAAZ). As for the spare tire, all I have to say is wait till you get to all the things you can cook with an unlimited supply of wort/beer. That's when your in trouble land.

Yeah, our SAAZ meetings can definitely sneak up on you. We always seem to have so much great beer that needs to disappear in one evenIng.

Some funny replies here guys, happy to be a member.

I guess I missed the meeting lastnight, hope it went well...

As for an endless supply of friends willing to help drink the beer, I'm partially to blame... I'm so excited to be brewing that I've given away half my first batch and I've been given requests for more!

Maybe it's time for a bigger house, carboys, buckets and bottles take up a lot of space.

Beer gut: Novice - Average size but I've got plans to go pro soon...

Pushing a car around town once a week sounds like a good workout.

The car was never out of commission, it just needed a pricey repair to not wind up out of commission. But Kyle is right, if I start pushing that up Duke St I'll be fit in no time.

I had to push my motorbike up quill once... I wouldn't recommend pushing a car around
