New to the homebrew

Post by Cobalt » Tue Dec 11, 2012 1:20 am

Hello all,

It was suggested that I say hi as a new member, so here I am lol. You can call me Cobalt or Tim, I'll answer to either ;)

A coworker has recently got me started in the making of my own beer, and to say I'm enjoying it is and understatement. I enjoy Grolsch so he set me up with noble grape and my first time cooking was the Kap'n Krolsch recipe. It turned out better then I thought it would seeings how it was my first batch, and now have 2 more near the end of completion. 1 is in bottles conditioning, and the other is still in the secondary till this weekendish. All bottled with Grolsch bottles too :)

I'm now exploring all the different websites, tricks and techniques, and spending more and more time with it then I thought I would be lol. I have approx 110 Grolsch bottles now, soon to be all filled. I recently picked up a 50L keg (sanke) of kijiji, so still trying to decide if I want to try and make that work for the home setup, or sell it and try and get corny kegs.

I'm looking into a few other things for setting up, and really liked what I saw as for how people are/have set up their keezers! Really would like to have a small setup, just trying to save my $$$ in the process lol.

So yea, that's my recent venture into this home brew, and the rest is I'm 28, class 3 driver for ShredIt, and work all across the province, so I'm looking for deals anywhere :)

HI :spilly:
I've brewed: Oktoberfest, Belgian Tripple, Summer Ale (Keiths Clone), Home Brewed Ginger Ale, Rory's Red Irish Ale, Honey Brown, Russian Imperial Stout, Krölsch

Welcome!
You're just in time for our monthly meeting, if you'd like to meet up with some of us in person. We share homebrew and interesting beer from here and away. Check the post in the Events forum: http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... f=5&t=3463" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My suggestion of what to do with your keg: Either convert it to a big kettle so you can do full-volume boils (unless you've already got something that will work), or sell/trade it for corney kegs. A bit easier to manoeuvre/drink 19L at a time than 50L! The going price on kijiji for corneys seems to be around $40, though you'll find some for less every once in a while.

ps. There's a few of us in Spryfield, we could hook up next brew day?

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
