Aloha! VAN --> HFX home brewer

Post by Lindsay902 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 11:27 am

Hi there folks,

After an 8 year stint in Vancouver, I've recently returned to NS to eat, drink and be merry! Have been doing all-grain batches with friends for >1.5 years now but will be starting fresh and on my own here in lovely Halifax. Once I get my equipment sorted, would love to bring in some brew to share at a meeting :)

Happy days -

-Lindsay

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Nov 2 would be ideal timing to get out and meet some peeps.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Hello, Welcome.

Here's a link to the nov 2nd brew day: http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... f=5&t=5353

What kind of all grain brewing are you into? there's a few AG BIABers on here now, and seems to be catching on.

Was there much real ale/cask ale in Vancouver with all those ex pat Brits over there?

Have fun brewing...and NovaScotiaing.

:cheers:

If you are shopping for equipment here is a great local place to start https://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks everyone! What a warm welcome.

Definitely checked out https://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and have my list ready to go. :rockin: Going to get my dad to help me build a mash tun (I love DIY projects; thankfully he lives close and has the tools!). Have brewed everything from juniper-tip infused ales, Pliny the Elder clones (can't help but love a classic) and a tasty black hop lager. I'm a hops-addict and love the Cascadian style IPAs out there.

Re: casks - I volunteered at quite a few cask festivals through CAMRA Vancouver (Campaign for Real Ale) and love the opportunity to taste cask beer. There is only one place in Vancouver that has a "cask on tap", the Irish Heather in Gastown, and it is delicious. I love casked beer: the style, the temperature, the smoothness, the minor carbonation.

I'm out of town Nov 2nd but hope to be able to attend to the next event!
