Hellooooo!
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, but I was actually at the last gathering at Chris's place in December. I was the only lady there. So memorable.
My husband Dave and I love craft beer, and having just moved here from the States in September, are pumped to find other people with similar tastes, and who can guide us towards finding good beer in Nova Scotia.
I don't plan on starting brewing until it warms up a bit, but I'd like to do some research. Can anyone point me to a good starter guide?
I will be at Stillwell for the event this Saturday. I hope to see, and meet, some of you there!
Toodloo,
Connie

Re: Hellooooo!
Welcome, good to see you finally made it to the site!
This is a great guide to learn how to brew (or you could just tag along on a brew day with a Brewnoser)

Re: Hellooooo!
Hello Connie, I found the best way to learn around here is to ask. I asked once if I could get some critical analysis of my beers, and within a week two experienced Brewnowsers came to see me and had me sorted in no time. Questions on the forum are dealt with royally, and joining people on brew days is also a great idea.

Re: Hellooooo!

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Hellooooo!
We're lady brewers so it's not all men around here! We're pretty new to brewing, too. We started with the Festa pre-made wort kits (dump wort, sprinkle yeast, call it a day) but, with some excellent Brewnoser guidance, have started doing all-grain brews. I second Jimmy's recommendation of Palmer's How to Brew as a start and don't be afraid to ask questions on here. The Brewnosers are a friendly, helpful bunch who know their beer.
