Time to Quit Lurking!
Hi folks!
I'm Chris. I've been sort of lurking around here for quite a while, and figured since I'm likely to meet Dave in person this weekend, maybe it's long past time to introduce myself.
I've been brewing off and on since before I even began drinking beer, believe it or not. I've brewed kits (FestaBrew -- the canned stuff always gets forgotten and expires when it's gifted to me), done a few partial mashes and finally built a big cooler tun to do all-grain last year. One heavily-substituted batch of Yooper's Oatmeal Stout (from over on HomeBrewTalk) turned out great and I'm hoping to keep in the swing. I even converted a nice full-sized kegerator a couple of years ago, but I've been delinquent keeping it full. Hopefully moving over to a 9-gal brew kettle instead of a three-way split boil on my stove will help.
I brew out of my kitchen and basement here near the Halifax Shopping Centre, and I'm trying to get my fiance into it to keep the pipeline flowing!
It's always a pleasure to read your collective wisdom, and I look forward to actually contributing from time to time, now.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

I'm surprised Mr. X didn't flame you for the Home Brew Talk reference

I do apologise. It's just honestly where the recipe came from. Is there some bad blood there?
Thanks for the welcomes, folks!

Re: Time to Quit Lurking!

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Welcome aboard!
Don't worry, the HBT thing is just a running joke about the quality of knowledge on their site ... You know, like trusting anonymous weirdos on the Internet.
Oh wait, I resemble that remark.
I'm too late to encourage a visit to this month's meeting (it was tonight), but stay tuned for next month's (always the second Tuesday), and/or the June 7 bash in Middle Sackville.

I'll keep an eye on the plans and try to make it to a meeting or the bash. I had hoped to finally start my latest batch last night, but the need to be responsible and do things like buy food got in the way.

Beer is in the running for the healthiest of all alcoholic beverages. It has antibiotic, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. It has been proven that drinking up to 3 beers a day decreases your risk of heart disease by around 30% and it also lowers your risk of getting diseases like diabetes. Beer is also chock full of important vitamins and minerals that you need to survive.
