Hello from Afghanistan

Post by HotBreak » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:23 pm

Been out of brewing for a couple of years while training, deploying, etc but excited to get back in when I get back in Dec. Keggermeister and I have brewed together since we were teenagers but I can't continue letting him be the only one brewing our recipies!
Anyway, lots of equipment on order for when I get home. Merry Xmas to me!
I am a dedicated allgrain brewer who also loves his cidre so 9 months in the desert has given me a thirst!
Looking forward to being back in it.

Welcome, and hope you get back safely.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

As long as I don't fall in a ditch in Cyprus, I should make it back safely enough!

Thank you for your service and :welcome:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Somehow I'm not surprised. You guys must have been popular in junior high.

Welcome to the forum!

So you love cider do you? I live in the Annapolis Valley NS, (Right next door to CFB Greenwood actually!) and it's apple picking time, perhaps you could show me how to properly make it!

Chris ;)

Hi Chris, it's really easy to make cidre actually. We will have to touch base sometime since I work in Greenwood.

Hey Hotbreak,

What are the odds....lol.

I've been trying to find an old time Nova Scotia apple cider recipe, but had no luck, but did find a couple helpful webpages about it.

I "think" I know what to do, well, at least I'm trusting the online instructions, and I'm gonna try to "convert" a few bottled of Boats brand non-alcoholic cider to the hard stuff.

Thanks, take care!

Chris ;)

If you are in Greenwood, you should just roll up the road to Footes family farm to get the good stuff. $0.80/litre, you can buy the honey there!
I just use their unpasteurized, unfiltered sweet apple cidre, throw a kg of honey in, add some champagne yeast and let'er go! I can't keep people away from it, even doing 15-20 gal/ season.

It wasn't the beer that made me popular!

Welcome back to brewing Drew.
