Hello all,

Just getting into brewing and already hate bottleing. Just wondering where i should look for a Keg system. I have have the room for another fridge or freezer so just looking for ideas. Should i just go buy the system from Noble Grape or can i get it for less money some place else? Any and all ideas welcome.

Thanks and looking forward to the ideas.

I think you just missed out on the last of the coke kegs, but there may be more coming, seems the end is undefined, lol. Are you looking to build a keezer? How big a co2 tank? Need towers or shanks? Want Perlicks? There are other vendors here, and a package deal may work well for you. And.....
:welcome:

That's always the question with DIY. It can be cheaper if you hunt down deals, wait around for group buys/club deals, and build it yourself. However, how much your time is worth is up to you, as is your personal "because I can" factor. A lot of homebrewers like to tinker, so building their own is generally the way to go, but there is no shame in a nice setup from NG. The beer is really what matters most.

Also, :welcome: Feel free to post more details of what you are thinking and we will try to help.

I guess a good question to start with is:

How many beers do you want to have on-tap at any given time?
or (and)
What type of fridge do you want to use?
This will possibly limit the number of kegs that you can have at any given time.

Once you have picked a fridge, you need to decide what type of taps you want. If money's no object, then some good perlicks are the way to go (and a tower if they're coming from the top of the fridge)... but you can always get by with a couple of picnic faucets in the mean time.

Then you need to choose your CO2 system - how big of a tank do you want? 5lb is good option, but if you have the space (and money), a larger tank will mean less fills down the road. If you want to do a tank-exchange at NG, then you don't have to spend $$ on a nice shiny aluminum tank, since they'll be giving you a steel one back. If you do want to get an aluminum one, you'll likely want to take it to Brenton's yourself to have it filled.
As for the regulator... you can have one pressure throughout the system, or a couple (but you'll want a regulator for each pressure). Again, it all falls down to how much you want to spend, multiple pressures will allow you to tap a greater variety of items that may require a higher pressure.

For example, I live in an apartment (limited space), so I went with a converted Whirlpool (Danby) minifridge that holds 2 cornies and a CO2 tank.
I went with a 5lb aluminum CO2 tank, and a dual-body regulator (two separate pressures for me to play with). This is mainly usefull for me when I have carbonated water, as it sits in the 35-40PSI range.
At the time of purchase, I didn't want to spend the extra cash on a tower, so I've been running with picnic faucets for a year or so. I'll likely be looking to convert to a tower within the next few months.

Hope this helps.

FYI, the guy in Bayers Lake will sell corny kegs for $25 if you ask him.

The others seem to have covered everything - mostly by asking more questions

:D Thanks for all the feed back. i guess its going to be a long process to figure out what i really want to do with it. i just bit the bullet and bought the basic keg system from Noble Grape in burnside. i then had to convince my wife to let me clear out our second fridge to put it in. :D A little bribe of letting her keep her wine fruity wine in there and maybe kegging it did the tirck there. If i could only convine her to let me put the taps out the side.

Looking forward to lots of great discussions
cheers!! :cheers3:

Welcome from the Rock.

You know it's better to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission :jerry:

Brew a beer that she likes and make sure it never goes dry. I'm told that's the key.

Exactly. Or cider... My girlfriend likes cider. Maybe when she tries to take a stand re: my brewing purchases I'll make her a cider.

$30 is pretty good. Sometimes they're $20, often $25. NG replaces the O-rings before they give them to you, though that's a minor expense.

$30 is reasonable when supply is tight. And if NG is using the cheap (thin) tube o-rings, that ain't no deal.
