Hello from Timberlea

Post by Nolnah » Wed Feb 15, 2012 1:50 pm

Hey folks. I just started at this hobby, which has become an obsession, back in September. I have really only been doing Festa Brew kits so far and some wine kits for the wife. However I have just recently turned out a few batches of what is basically fermented lemon juice (you could call it hard lemonaide but it is nothing like the commerical malt products available) and I have been thinking about trying mead. I plan to start all grain sometime down the road but my plan is to invest in keg equipment and build a keezer first.

Thought it would be more polite to introduce myself before I posted my first question.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Another timberlean who is becoming passionate about brewing checking in - I as well currently have only done festa brew kits but have experimented with dry hopping - friend on another forum said he posted on a local beer forum which was highly active so I decided to google it and sure enough here I am

Hoping to find some great recipes and advice on how to do things from scratch

Maybe us timberlea folk could get together sometime and sample each others product and discuss plans of action ?

Cheers!
