Been lurkin' for a while figured I'd become a full fledged member.

Been thinking about homebrewing for a while.... just never made the commitment. Well, I finally decided to get me arse in gear and do something about it. Even brave (stunned) enough to even try all-grain even at my first try. If I'm gonna do it, may as well go all out.

Hope to be up and running in a few weeks. I'll be sure to let ya's know about my adventures....or mis-adventures!

All-grain isn't as hard as it seems - I went straight from kits to all-grain. Its a steep learning curve, but not hard. It helps to have someone else to watch, teach you the ropes, but not essential - I didn't. I read a lot, browsed a couple forums and dove in.

You might say that. Actually it happens to be my nick-name here at work. It got coined about 17 years ago. Something to do with me eyeballing a set of Rally rims at the top of a 75 foot a scrap heap and wondering if I could get them.

Actually there's a few I work with who don't even remember my real name.....

So I think I got a good deal on start up equipment:

Here's what I'll be getting (used):

- 5 brewing buckets with lids
- Bottle sulphiter
- bottle tree
- bottle washer
- and all the basics that come with a kit, except for the hydrometer.

For a grand total of $65. Seemed good to me. I passed on the glass carboys.... I like the safeness of plastic. I am a clumsy sort....

sounds like a pretty good deal. bottle washer's definitely make the bottling process go a lot quicker in my experience. i've never used sulphite stuff, i think it's for wine.

Bottle sulphiter if I remember right, is an outfit that you fill up with a no-rinse sanatizing solution and when you press down with the bottle it sprays it inside. Suppose to fit right on top of the bottle tree. Should make sanatizing the bottles quick and easy.

whoops, that's what i thought you meant by bottle washer they are very handy for sanitizing for sure. is the bottle washer something that hooks to your tap? either way i'm sure it'll be handy

Yeah, the bottle washer is the one that goes on the tap.

Now all you need is a trip to Brewery Lane to pick up supplies. They now carry Star-san which is a no rinse sanitizer.

I used to use SO2 as my sanitizing agent, but I have read that it's not strong enough for beer so I switched to starsan. That being said I never had a problem using it but I hated the gas it would create. It can take your breath away if your not in a ventilated area.

Yup.... good to see they are now carrying Star-san. Never saw it on their online catalog and was wondering if they did. Thanx for the info T.
