Hi from Enfield

Post by mstead » Thu Feb 07, 2013 10:33 pm

Hey all:

I've been lurking around the forum for a few months now, and figured I'd introduce myself. I started brewing Festa Brew kits a couple of years ago. This summer, a buddy of mine invited me out for a brew day -- to show me the ropes -- of all grain brewing (dry stout). Well... I'm hooked!

I'm only 3 solo all grain batches in (two more currently fermenting), but I am pretty happy with how they have come out so far.

I'm quickly finding out that it is so easy to to spend money with this hobby. Two keg system on its way from OBK.

"You are only 3 batches in, and you are kegging already?" -- Storage space in the house is being taken over by beer bottles and brewing equipment. Getting rid of 3/4 of the bottles, and replacing them with a couple corny kegs was a good compromise with my wife! And it should complement the bar in my man cave quite well! :rockin:

Anyway... love the forum. Lots of great info here! Looking forward learning from all of ya!

Cheers!

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Welcome aboard! Good move on ditching the bottles early in your career, especially if it keeps the boss happy.
