Hows it going guys/gals? New to the forum obviously and looking to get into home brewing. I have been doing some reading and am still reading about it. I live out in the top of nowhere and figured it would be a good hobby for me and my girlfriend to start. So hope to talk to you all soon and get to know a bunch of you.

Welcome, Thomas.

Island or Great Land?

Great hobby? I would have to say it goes further than a hobby.. it do become more of an obsession in the quest to make great tasting beer. Todays brew isn't ( for the most part ) yesterdays yeasty hootch. With the wealth of info out there, including this site, you'll be making great crafted beer very soon.

Cheers from the east coast.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm living right now in St Anthony and I kinda have that feeling that it will turn out to be more than just a hobby. I can't wait to get started. I just got a few questions though. Like what is a good site to order equipment from? I don't really have a home brew store close to me. Also what would be a good Starter kit? And I have noticed the starter kits come with the cleaning/sanitizing solution. But it doesn't come with a bottle cleaner or brush or any of the other necessary tools to clean my equipment so I dont get bacteria and skuny beer. Should I just buy a starter kit and then buy all the other equipment at the same time? Or should I just pick and choose and make my own starter kit?

For a bottle cleaner, look for a jet washer that attaches to your kitchen or laundry sink.

Take a look through our Vendors section. One of those shops should have what you need.

Lots of relatives in Raleigh and some in St Anthony. My two uncles ran the lighthouse out on Fox Point. I also have a buddy that I worked with living there now doing burner service for Maurice Simms.
Don't recall any place near to you where you can get anything so mail order is the way to go all right. And this free on-line book http://www.howtobrew.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; should help you make some great brew if you are going the canned K&K route which I suspect is all you will get in St. Anthony for making home brew with.
Those canned kits are all right to start with if you have nothing else, but try to sub out the corn sugar they tell you to use with more extract... you beer will thank you for it.

Cheers and good luck

Wow small world hey. I see what you mean unless I am going into town to get supplies which I go into town a fair bit mail order is defiantly the way to go. Also what would I use in place of that? And as for a route I have no idea. My woman got me a kit apparently ( she couldn't keep it a secrete ) so I guess I will try that and let you guys know how it goes. I think I`m going to take photos to see how it turns out. Wish me luck.
