Hello from Dartmouth
My friends and I are spending too much on Growlers, so it's time to start brewing. A few of you probably know me from Twushi or Twitter. (RemyAroundTown)
So yeah, hi.

Re: Hello from Dartmouth

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Hello from Dartmouth
My girlfriend and I have done about 10 batches of wine, so we have most of the gear we'd need to brew our own from a kit, at least. The plan is to get a keg setup for the basement, so any advice on how to do that on the cheap would be appreciated. Noble Grape has the complete kit for $270, which isn't bad, but I figured I would check with you fine folks before making an investment like that.

Be sure to check Everwood Ave Brew Shop's prices as well. You can find Dave in the vendor's section.RemyAroundTown wrote:My girlfriend and I have done about 10 batches of wine, so we have most of the gear we'd need to brew our own from a kit, at least. Re: Hello from Dartmouth
You should be able to get setup with 1 tap by shopping online (kijiji, or Everwood) for a couple hundred, including fridge. I just finished mine a few weeks back, check out the thread. Will give you an idea of what to expect. If you have any questions, ask away. Alot of questions may already be answered, try doing a genereal search, you may quickly find what you need.RemyAroundTown wrote:My girlfriend and I have done about 10 batches of wine, so we have most of the gear we'd need to brew our own from a kit, at least. Re: Hello from Dartmouth
I got my setup from OntarioBeerKegs (good prices on kits) and got a new mini fridge from Costco ($159). Not the cheapest way, but it was quick, easy and I liked how it turned out.
I'd highly recommend Everwood Ave too, I've bought quite a bit of other stuff from them and have been quite happy with it.

Re: Hello from Dartmouth
Hello, Festa Brew from Noble Grape would be the best way to start and makes really good beer. All you would need then is a fermenting bucket, syphon tube and some bottles + Starsan sanitizer.

Re: Hello from Dartmouth
Looks like Everwood will be slightly cheaper than OntarioBeerKegs, and quite a bit cheaper than purchasing locally. Going to keep an eye on Kijiji for a few weeks before I commit to purchasing anything.

Subscribing to the "Classifieds" thread is a good way to keep on top of things that are for sale. Kind Brewnosers that trawl Kijiji post there quickly.
