Cheers!
Well, I finally got around to looking up Brewnosers...I've been a member over at Homebrewtalk for a few years now, and have no idea why I never went local, shame on me
I've been brewing for about 12 years give or take. I generally make full-boil extract batches with specialty grains, and enjoy messing around with ingredients/procedures to see what happens (as in the delicious 'Nova Scotia Black Ale' I have on tap right now....take that BJCP). Beersmith has been instrumental in helping me raise my game.
(One day I'll stop being so cheap and go all-grain)
Next step is finding and planting some NS hops in the spring...any advice for where to source local hop rhizomes would be greatly appreciated.
So many years and so much more to learn....looking forward to some great conversations!

There's usually rhizomes floating around here come spring.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Haha, going all grain is cheaper if you don't have the constant need for more shiny stuff
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Ya, and that's the frustrating part! It's more the up-front set-up costs....LiverDance wrote:sutepan wrote: (One day I'll stop being so cheap and go all-grain)

You could get a 5 gallon propane biab setup going for ~150$ all in if you are so inclined. Kent burner + kent aluminum pot + biab bag.sutepan wrote:Ya, and that's the frustrating part! Welcome. Don't listen to those other guys. Open up the purse strings and let her fly. Spend spend spend.. got to help the Canadian economy. Going all grain would be the best you ever did regarding the final beer IMO. I know it was for me. I love my beer.
