Introduction

Post by jeffsmith » Tue Apr 26, 2011 5:06 pm

Hello all!

My name's Jeff. I'm originally from PEI, but I've also called Fredericton NB, St. Albert AB, and most recently Amherst NS my home. I'm relatively new to homebrewing having brewed my first solo batch over the holiday season just past and just put my 5th batch of beer into primary about a week and a half ago. For the time being I'm an extract brewer. I have a 6-week old son and extract seems to be the way to go until I'm able to dedicate a bit more time (and cash) to getting setup for all grain. I've been pretty happy with the extract route so far having brewed an IPA (pretty much the standard for a first time brew, no?), German Alt., Cascadian Dark Ale, Blood Orange Hefe, and Double Chocolate Milk Stout.

I've been a craft beer lover for years since one of the few local craft beers available (in NB at least) was Garrison's Oatmeal Stout.

Cheers!

:welcome:

Another brewer on the Marsh! I've been all-grain brewing for a little over 2 years, but its a pretty lonely homebrew seen here.

I might be brewing on Friday during the day. If you are off and want to sit in on a session (or have a couple pints), PM me.

Andy

Edit: Apparently, I'm just around the corner from you too...

Ah, looks as though you are. Would love to take you up on that, but I'm an 8 to 5'er (even though I work from my home office). I haven't sat in on an all-grain brew day since I was in university. If you're ever brewing on a weekend or a holiday, give a shout (or PM) down the hill—I'm down near Webster.

I'm a civil servant (the Geomatics Center, just up the street from you), so I'm a Monday to Friday guy too, but I haven't brewed in a while, so I may take a vacation day and get a batch going. Its usually weekends when the wife is not working (and can run interference with the kids).

If we don't get together for a brew session some time soon, we may have to swap some homebrew.

Hi Jeff - I see you've already "met" Andy. There's also the odd (and I mean that in the nicest of ways) professional brewer from Amherst. It's like a hotbed of hop.
Currently on tap: Nothing!
In keg: Still nothing.
In Primary: Doggone American Rye Pale Ale

Let me know if you decide to brew Friday PM. I might sneak out for a "coffee break" for a few minutes if I can and bring along a bottle or two of my Grizzly CDA.

I added it when I first started this site, it helps with google search results for our website.

It would be good if we could edit it though, since it cut off some of the description and the member #'s is no longer correct.

Providence. Very nice they can't spell province.

Welcome to the forum btw.

If nobody has told you yet you should be made aware that Amherst is town of great gods and rulers. Some of the worlds most stunning, famous and fat brewers hail from the gods country that is Amherst. Take my mother for example, she had me brewing up a storm by the time I was 13, I'll hook you up sometime when I'm down for a visit. Its where I became famous with my pot oil and hashesh beers, my maple beers and spruce beers which we all know can only be made with fresh tips of the new spring growth. Andy can tell you. Fuck he no more than moved to Amherst and all the suddenly he's making beer almost as good as me utilizing things like buckets o hops in the kettle and shit tons of melanoidin malt in the tun. Yup. The good lord above shall look upon the brewers of Amherst and give them the touch. I was touched. Hell now I only need to use 4 simple ingredients to make retardedly wicked good beer. Mind you I use truckloads of them but still.

Yup. Amherst. You'll see.

As long as he touches the hop plants in my back yard and keeps the cost of malted barley from rising too much, I'll consider myself lucky!

He's still around here (though maybe not as often as he used to be) - I've run into him at Pharmasave - wearing the Scorpion pendant from 'The Scorpion King'

Seconded. I've been forced to live in Halifax thanks to University.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.
