Araxi Introduction

Hi everybody,
My name is Bruce and I will be moving to Moncton from Winterpeg for June 1st with my lovely wife. I have been brewing since the mid 80's and all grain brewing for 6 years. I have a question, is there a place in Moncton to buy malt? and where do you guys buy your supplies? I see there is a place called Noble Grape that sells malted barley in Halifax, are they any good?
Cheers,
Bruce

Not much available in Moncton unfortunately. Maybe get in on some of the group buys the guys here are doing, there might be someone that travels back and forth regularly that could get yours to you without much expense.
Good luck.

Noble Grape has a store in Fredericton too, though that's only marginally closer than Halifax. They will ship to you, which helps (but not the bank account) and I've gone that route before we started doing bulk purchases. Their selection is adequate, but if there is a malt you need, just ask - one of us might have it.

to the Maritimes in advance.

There is a group in NB that does group malt buys, but not too often. When you get here, see what we have going on for supplies. NG is all over Halifax as well.

There's a couple shops around moncton, and they can get you grains...though i think they get them from noble but not 100% sure on that. E & L wine and brew is a good shop on Elmwood Dr. i beleive it is.....and there's another decent shop over in dieppe next to the cdn tire gas bar.
Welcome to NB

Yes, I've found hops at the Dieppe store and there's a place at the top end of Mountain Road that will order in yeast for you too - I can't remember the name right now, but once you get here, I'll look it up...

Welcome! If you do run across any good, reliable suppliers in Moncton, be sure to let us fellas in Amherst know.

Sounds like you're talking about the place accross from the small strip mall with the liquor store, rbc, etc? He was in the strip mall but opened accross the street next to Wheatons?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes to all of you and for the info. I'll be much more active here once we get settled. Looking forward to moving to the east coast for sure.

Didn't know he moved... but yeah up near Lounsbury Furniture. It was mostly a Brew-on-Premises place for wine, but he did order in some yeast for me once or twice.

yup...sounds like the same guy. Last time i was in there he was in the midst of moving, and he was gonna get into doing beer on premise and was supposed to get a canning machine....not sure if he ended up doing that or just sticking with the wine.

I wonder if I could talk him into bringing my homebrew in and use the canning machine... That would be so sweet for camping trips and parties.

i can't confirm if he's actually got the canning machine yet(haven't been in the new place since he moved), i know he was thinking of going that route as he didn't want the hassle of ppl bringing all different types of bottles (which makes sense, different sizes, 60+, etc)...as with the brew on premise with wine, you have 30 bottles and usually all the same size or type. With beer, there's so much variety.
