Hello from Halifax
Hello!
Recovering Albertan and new brewer in Halifax checking in. Started with a few great festabrew wort kits, but have recently moved to extract brewing before I work up the nerve to try partial mash and all-grain.
My first extract batch (the toy soldier stout recipe kit from OBK) will be ready for drinking next week, and I'm gearing up for a batch of my own experiment recipe that I'm expecting to fail spectacularly.
Looking forward to learning with the lot of you!
John

Thanks! I've been lurking forums like this, and reading How to Brew by John Palmer quite a bit, for some time, and I figured it was time to join up.homebrewcrew wrote:Welcome, sounds like you are well on your way.

Re: Hello from Halifax

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Think of it this way - even if something does goes wrong, chances are you had fun doing it and you end up with beer in the end!thehollowhead wrote:Hello!

Hah! Good to be here. If your signature is any indication, then I'd like to know more. I'm going to start a Imperial Blonde pitched with hefeweizen yeast for the banana and cloves. Next up is a cucumber saison and a watermelon wheat.Keith wrote:A man after my own heart!thehollowhead wrote:Hello!

Re: Hello from Halifax
Tuesday's can be a hit or miss for me this time of year work-wise, but I'm hoping on a miss for the 11th so I can make an appearance.
Also, can I ask for some more info on the monthly meeting? Where do they take place? What is expected? What can I expect? etc etc.

This post has most of the info necessary: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1582&p=16005" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But I'm putting together an FAQ that will live in the Events thread, so check there after noon today.
