SaltyDog - New brewnoser in Saint John
Hey everyone,
I'm a new member to Brewnosers although I've been meaning to join for a while now. I've been brewing for a few years now but only started taking it seriously the past 6 months. I've been doing extract batches with specialty grains for about 2 years, mostly using Best Case kits. Since I started taking brewing more seriously I've beed doing a lot of reading on the subject (John Palmer's "How to Brew" being my main reference), built a kegerator, a temperature controlled fermentation chamber and have bought and have been storing my own ingredients.
I really want to get good at homebrewing and eventually start making my own unique recipes. I thought this would be a good place to talk about homebrewing with a group of people who share my interest.
Anyway, just wanted to post something as a newcomer. I'm sure I'll be posting some questions in the future, and I look forward to meeting all of you.
Cheers,
SaltyDog
P.S. Fun first question: "What do you think is the most important thing you've learned about brewing so far?"

Welcome, it's great to see more people taking up the hobby in the area.
I'm finishing up a couple years in NL right now but moving back to Saint John in July.

Also, the most important thing i have learned is a tough one. I started brewing extract kits and progressed through partial mash to a three vessel system and now BIAB. Over all the changes the biggest improvements in my beer have come in really focusing on sanitation and controlling yeast temperatures during primary fermentation.

I'll second both points. Getting both of these under control has made brewing much less frustrating and much more enjoyable/tasty.mcgster wrote:AOver all the changes the biggest improvements in my beer have come in really focusing on sanitation and controlling yeast temperatures during primary fermentation.

Re: SaltyDog - New brewnoser in Saint John
Thanks everyone! Looks like it's fairly unanimous, luckily I've been doing both of these already so it seems I'm on the right track.
For those of you in Saint John, are there any brewing groups around here? I have a few friends into brewing but they don't live around here. My friends here enjoy the beer I make and tolerate me droning on about the whole process but I don't really know people who have a passion for it like I do out here. I was thinking it would be good to meet up with some locals who share the interest. Let me know if there are any events in the area I don't know about.
Thanks,
Salty Dog

Welcome I am in fredricton. Most important thing I learned is to have fun with it. And be big on sanitation.
