Stored there right near the base of the stairs is thice nice old fermenting crock! SCORE!
Judging from the size and the "2" on the side I figure it's 2 gallons. I'm going to fashion a new lid / weight from a HDPE lid, drill some holes in it, and weigh it down with water filled mason jars. I'll test it out with a batch of sauerkraut and if it goes well I'll ferment some peppers for a nice sauce.
