Re: Controller
The bird chirping/wildlife background noise was an unneeded extra... but otherwise pretty neat.

Re: Controller
I listen to so many homemade history podcasts that chirping birds and pretty much anything in the background is a non issue for me!mikeorr wrote:The bird chirping/wildlife background noise was an unneeded extra... but otherwise pretty neat.

The big green egg has had an official version for awhile now. Not sure if it is any better of worse.

And this is based on the DIGIQ, which has been around longer than the officially licensed version.

Re: Controller
Yeah I've seen the guru and the iq. what I like about this one is that there's no fan. It's only the dial/daisy wheel on top that controls the temperature less parts and pieces to go wrong and should I'm assuming be a lot less expensive

Re: Controller
I have a BBQ guru and love it. I can't imagine a controller would work as well without a fan. Maybe better than nothing, but if you're going to spend the money... I could be totally wrong but just can't see how you would get as accurate control without.

Re: Controller
I think you could do very well with damper control. I was toying with the idea myself, something along the lines of old school bimetallic spiral, no digital at all.

Re: Controller
I guess damper control would be better/faster at adjusting from high temps to low temps, but fan control would be better at raising temps. Really, the best controller would implement both methods. If you don't have an easily accessible AC source, damper control would also be better in that regard as well. I do have AC close by though so it's not something I have to worry about.
