Here she be all setup on my patio, ready to go. I went back and picked up some of the charcoal from Costco as well. And yes, my patio is in need of a serious soaking once the warmer weather comes...I guess that's what happens when it's a brewery as well as a patio

Nice! I like how the bottom grill opens, easy to add chips. That thing looks great. Good purchase.
Do they have covers for them? I need one for my egg.
It's so clean inside!

Yeah, the covers come with them though. They have velcro down one side for easy slip on/offKeggermeister wrote:Nice! I like how the bottom grill opens, easy to add chips. That thing looks great. Good purchase.

Where do you get one of these "electric starter coils" at that the instruction manual talks about to ignite the charcoal?

Just get a charcoal chimney. They work good.Jimmy wrote:Where do you get one of these "electric starter coils" at that the instruction manual talks about to ignite the charcoal?
In the mean time, fill the fire box and stuff some (I do 3 spots with 1 sheet each) paper or napkins into the charcoal partially, pour a bit of cooking oil on it and light. It is not the fastest method, but everybody has paper and oil.
Don't count on the ceramic ever being white again after you light it...

I have a MAPP torch, and wouldn't use anything else.

I've got one of those, but man it makes a mess. I've got paper ashes flying everywhere...lolKeggermeister wrote: Just get a charcoal chimney. They work good.
I might have to go that route. I have one laying around anyway.mr x wrote:I have a MAPP torch, and wouldn't use anything else.

Re: What do you guys grill or smoke with?
I use a single firestarter cube in the bottom of my charcoal chimney. It eliminated all that flying paper ash.Jimmy wrote:I've got one of those, but man it makes a mess. I've got paper ashes flying everywhere...lolKeggermeister wrote: Just get a charcoal chimney. They work good.

Looks awesome !
+1 on the mapp or propane torch, hit it in 2 or 3 spots and away you go, fast and efficient with no mess

Propane/mapp from top or bottom of chimney? Or just do it right on the charcoal sitting in the bottom of the smoker?

Put the flame to the pile of lump/briquettes. No chimney needed. You can get them on sale at CT a couple times a year, usually 30-35% off.

Re: What do you guys grill or smoke with?
Yeah chimneys are damn messy and can be dangerous. Throw the charcoal in the cooker, pull the trigger on the mapp and bamm, 90 seconds later it's good to go. It's about the fastest way to go aside from using a weed burner, you can have a kamado cooker burning at 600F in about 15 - 20 mins

I'm a big fan of using whats on hand, I always have cooking oil and I always have some sort of paper. I just dip the paper in the oil and throw two or three of them around the coals and 10-15 minutes later, you're good to go.

Re: What do you guys grill or smoke with?
Anything wrong with electric starters? I bought one for my small bge and quite like it - usually takes 5-10min to get things lit (depends on how hot you're headed, if I leave it in for 10min I'm shooting right past 300F). Just curious if there's a known downside other than having a red hot element sitting on a table for a few minutes until it cools.

Nothing wrong with them at all. Slower than a torch and annoying to dig out, plug in yadda yadda....

True. And when I ultimately take my egg on the road, it's not likely there will be electricity in the middle of the woods. Can you get a MAPP torches/fuel at Canadian Tire, Princess Auto kind of place?
