Re: HRM restaurant review
Thanks VG.
Along those lines, I hit up Flip Burger in Clayton Park, and quite enjoyed it. Again, lots of different toppings choices, good selection of signature burgers, their truffle oil & parm fries are excellent, poutine was good too (real curds). Shakes were also good (didn't see the Peanut Butter Bacon shake until it was too late, next time). We fed two people thoroughly for $30.

I can't suggest this place. You can get better and cheaper burgers at almost any restaurant, much less another 'gourmet burger' place. The toppings are interesting (and somewhat tasty), but the atmosphere is terrible, and the burgers were thin and overcooked (certainly not worth the $13-14 each).
Save your money, there are at least a dozen places off the top of my head where you can get better and less expensive burgers. Hell, the burgers at the Rock Bottom blow this place out of the water.
thanks for the burger reviews!chalmers wrote:Thanks VG.

I'm holding out for 'The Works'. Impressed me in Ottawa, hoping it'll hold the same standard here.

Me too. I've been to one in Ottawa twice and vowed to work my way through the whole menu. Now that it's coming here I may actually be able to do it. Where will it be located?know1 wrote:I'm holding out for 'The Works'. Impressed me in Ottawa, hoping it'll hold the same standard here.

Doyle street. July article mentioned mid to late september opening but no word yet. I may have to take a stroll by to gather the current status.KMcK wrote:Me too. Oh, I thought I saw somewhere that said it was also going to be on Quinpool. Doyle makes more sense to me since none have hit downtown yet.know1 wrote:Doyle street. A friend of mine described his experience at Relish on Quinpool and it sounds nothing like what I've had at the Oromocto location, which I think is the original/Sounds like they held on to the Blockbuster tradition of obnoxiously greeting every single person who comes in the door - which is really not pleasant if you're dining in.
And since all the old Blockbuster locations seem to be turning into Gourmet Burger joints (Relish and Flipburger), I presume Cole Harbour and Bedford will be getting one too?

opening soon posters in the windows of the former italian market space on Doyle street. Nothing happening inside though, wide open and empty. Doesn't look like any significant work has happened yet. My fingers are still crossed that it will come together in the next month or two.

Re: HRM restaurant review
Went to Cafe Chianti http://www.cafechianti.ca/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; this past Sunday.
Alicia ordered a pizza: Italiano - Italian sausage, prosciutto, capicolla, asiago, and sweet peppers. $15.
Which was awesome.
I ordered the Pan Seared Duck Breast - With a Grand Marnier glaze. $26.
Which was incredibly disappointing. It was very dry and relatively without flavour.
Any other day of the week it would have gotten sent back, but we were with a large party and had already waited long enough.
Food aside, the atmosphere was nice. Our large table had two iPads on it for their wine menu app which was actually pretty decent (descriptions, pics, food pairings from their menu, region, price, etc).
A bottle of Jim Jim Shiraz was $50, at Bishop's Cellar it is $22-24.
But man... that duck was terrible.

Authentic Neapolitan pies and they are oh-so-good! They are one of a handful of VPN certified Pizza joints in the country. They use the best ingredients, Type OO flour, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozza..... Suffice it to say, the best pie I have ever had! I recommend the Margherita as the top pick. Get on it folks!
As a side bonus they are making one pie to my specifications until closing on Tuesday Nov 13th. Ask for the Spanakopita Pie!

Re: HRM restaurant review
Sadly I have found that "the works" has gone far downhill in the last 5 years, at least the ones in Ottawa, kanata, Orleans an waterloo area. The quality of the food has dropped and the service and cleanliness has fallen as well. When they first opened everything was fresh ( I used to deliver their beer and got to see their kitchens and food orders quite often) but since I moved to NS and have returned to Ottawa rather frequently I've found it's just not as good as it used to be.

If you're looking for some interesting burgers in the Lower Sackville area, Angles Pub and Eatery on Sackville Drive is a good option. They are in their third of fourth iteration of "Burger Mania".
I just had the Peanut Butter and Fried Egg burger. While the peanut butter aspect doesn't sound right, it is quite good and adds a creamy mouthfeel that goes well with the beef and pickle. Another plus is that most (if not all) of the food is made fresh (no frozen packets). A good family restaurant.
