Re: HRM restaurant review
The guys and I from work go there every Friday or so for lunch. The food is usually average to good, sometimes more. For the longest time they couldn't get their shit together with the beer. Getting the Propeller for the special on "local craft beer Fridays" was like rolling the dice, and that's something that was also advertised by Propeller. It's a shame they don't serve it any more. They now have Barking Squirrel, LOL. Not an adequate replacement IMO, but a drinkable beer.LeafMan66_67 wrote:Split Crow - Bedford. Its been a few months since we've been there. Menu changed and beer selection changed. They dropped Propeller products, cut back on Garrison. Added Pump House Lager, but it was way undercarbed and somewhat sweet. Wings were awesome a few months ago - hopefully they were having an off night. Food was overcooked and fries are still frozen (but nicely decorated with dried parsley).
However, if you haven't tried it, get some John Shippey's Left Coast IPA. It is really fucking good!! Plenty of hops and bitterness, I'm guessing 6 - 6.5% abv. IIRC Garrison brews their brand. Since we're on the topic, can anyone tell me if Shippey's is setting up a new brewery?

Leery on getting any of their Shippey brand - got the left coast last time in and was disappointed - actually had to ask the waitress if I had the right beer. No hops, malty sweet.

Re: HRM restaurant review
Right, back to the part about them getting their shit together. It's been a while but they used to often have the wrong fucking keg hooked up to the IPA tap, their Pale Ale. We've sent beer back on multiple occaisons but it's been a while. The last time we ended up boycotting the place for weeks but ended up coming back. India Pale Ale, Pale Ale, same thing, right??LeafMan66_67 wrote:Leery on getting any of their Shippey brand - got the left coast last time in and was disappointed - actually had to ask the waitress if I had the right beer. "John Shippey's Brewing Co" isn't setting up a new brewery. What was once to be "Darkside Brewing Co" that I left Pump House to return to Halifax to open as part owner is however, poised to actually start making product but will now be called Shippey's Brewing Co. instead. And no, they don't have the recipes

Well fawk me! My buddy said it could be the IIPA but I thought it was a tad lighter, maybe a blend of that and hop yard.NASH wrote:Guess again, my old 'Left Coast IPA' is Garrison IIPA![]()

So this new "Shippey's Brewing Co." is unrelated WRT the product.... I wonder what kind of shit they'll end up producing. Time will tell I guess.

Into aMano last night, as Shelley had a gift certificate. Good food, but suffers from Bicycle Thief disease. Way too loud, and a non-existent beer menu. Standard corporate slop, and of all things, the craft/local selection was Pump House Blueberry. I'm pretty much done with the Bertossi group.

Ryan Duffy's - went there last night with a bunch of people from the office. Wine selection was good, but the beer selection is surprisingly limited - ended up drinking canned Sea Level porter. Waiter told me it was from Port Hawkesbury. Anyway, the dry aged fillet was excellent, cooked Pittsburgh rare - easily the best restaurant steak I have had in many years.

Nash and I ate at 2 Doors Down yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed with the food and atmosphere there. I had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and thought it was fantastic. Beer selection could be a little better as there was only three on tap.

Love the place, the food and Cereal Killer was at least 8 x better than the last time I tried it elsewhere.canuck wrote:Nash and I ate at 2 Doors Down yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed with the food and atmosphere there. Mic Mac Bar & Grill on move

One of Dartmouth’s newer bar and grills will look like one of its oldest when it opens in February.
The plan is to retain the look and feel of the original Mic Mac Bar & Grill, at 215 Waverley Rd., when the business relocates to new digs at a site just across the parking lot, general manager Dean Madill said Tuesday.
“We don’t want to mess with a winning formula,” Madill said, referring to the rebuilding of the restaurant-bar that has been a fixture in the community for decades.
The original Mic Mac Bar & Grill building was built at its Waverley Road location in the 1960s by a different owner.
The business has been in the Legoffic family since 1966, and its owner, Terry Legoffic, is adamant that guests will know they’re in Dartmouth when the new building, with a bigger kitchen and some hardier infrastructure, reopens for business, Madill said.
“We’ll get more focused on the interior design in the coming weeks,” he said. “The plan is to decorate the new space with photographs and memorabilia from old Dartmouth.”
About 55 full- and part-time staff from the Mic Mac will make the move to the new location, and the entire menu will stay pretty much the same.
“People come here for the laid-back atmosphere, the excellent service and most of all the quality of our food, and these features are not going to change,” Madill said.
“We’ll be adding some features to improve the kitchen, but we want to retain the classic Dartmouth experience that is the Mic Mac.”
He said the business is renowned for its hand-cut steaks and this will remain the house speciality.
Construction of the new building, which will include a second floor and some commercial space along Waverley Road, is proceeding on schedule.
A large construction crane is at the site this week as work proceeds.

[/b]Q Smokehouse closes its doors

Q Smokehouse & Southern BBQ is toast.
The Halifax smokehouse restaurant, operated by Robert Risley’s RCR Hospitality Group, closed Monday, Jeannette Folan, RCR’s marketing and communications manager, said Wednesday.
“It didn’t fit the rest of RCR’s operations.”
Folan said RCR restaurants, which include Onyx, CUT, Waterfront Warehouse, Victory Arms Pub and Bistro le Coq, tend to be higher-end than the smokehouse restaurant, which opened in 2010.
Plans are in the works to put another restaurant in the Q space on Argyle Street, Folan said.
But she wouldn’t disclose details or confirm social media reports that Onyx, where Mick Jagger dined in 2006 when the Rolling Stones played Halifax, was moving there from its Spring Garden Road location.
