Hey All,

Over the years I've been buying small bags of dried chiles from Pete's, Sobeys, and the Superstore. However none of those places has any right now or no longer carries them.

I'm looking for guajillo, ancho, numex varieties, de arbol, pasilla... whatever I can get my hands on.

Does anyone know of anywhere else in the city that sells them? Do we have a Mexican grocer anywhere?

I'm also shopping online so maybe a group buy is possible.

BTW if you've never tried cooking with these you have to try it. You rehydrate them and use in sauces or chili.

Superstore in Bedford usually has ancho, will check next time in.

I love rehydrating them and then pureeing as the liquid for chili

I’ve been a chili hunter for years now In Halifax, beyond beer Mexican food is my obsession! Ancho, New Mexico, chipotle and Arbol can be found at some superstores. I’ve had the best luck at Young st and Bayers road SS locations. As for guajillo and passila you can try Cafe Aroma Latino on North/Agricola, she has a number of dried chilies, but maybe guajillo from what I remember.

If there was enough interest in a group buy I’d be in for some more ancho, guajillo and passila.

I have a bunch of Chile de arbol if you want some, I don’t use a ton of that one since it packs a punch!

Also if you are looking for good fresh chilies, Sobeys stocks some Serranos and poblano peppers. Although SS has some sales on Poblanos since no one ever buys them.

Thanks Cam, but I also have lots of chile de arbol right now.

I made a quick Mexixan chorizzo the other day with ground pork, guajillo, de arbol, and spices. It was divine used as taco filling on fresh tortillas. I've been eating it all weekend. Tacos 12 times in 12 days now (2 days off lol!). More today haha.

Hey Rob - what did you get for a taco press? It's something I've toyed with but haven't pulled the trigger.

It works great. I use a cut open zip lock bag to line it with to make removing the tortilla a cinch.

Looks great Rob, to get the puff in the tortilla is the greatest haha

I also have the same tortilla press, had others in the past but that one is a beast!
