Re: New Kamado from Costco
So far I have no complaints with mine. Yes it could use some accessories. Also it gets way better temp consistency once it has a good dose of ash in it.

I will likely be grabbing one for the cottage if funds permit.

I like mine. I've only had it for a year so I can't comment on the durability but it seems great. I got a smaller grill and a pizza stone in the lower rack which makes temps way more stable.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I was in Costco today, I think I like the one there, "Classic B", better than the "Professional" at Canadian Tire. It's a bit simpler with the air intake controls and ash access. The CT one has this leaky looking panel with dial controls and igniter port. Solid looking things though. I think I'll pick one up sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I'd be careful about waiting too long to pick one up - I'm told they are very limited in their stock.

Well, I went to buy it today and it's gone. I'll call Halifax today and if they have any left I'll get over later or tomorrow.

Hey Guys:
The Costco in Saint John currently has 4 in stock. I thought about buying one for a few days but saw the thread on the Walmart one.Think I'll try that first time around. Thanks for the great info and pics .

Re: New Kamado from Costco
So I bought one of these bad boys last night (in Calgary.. )!
Haven't set it up yet, but very impressed with the quality. This thing is nice!
So do I need to 'cure' this thing at all before using? I have read it should have a very low temp cook for ~ 24 hrs before using it at higher temps. Makes sense. Can I 'cook' food during this initial curing stage? If so, looks like a big ass pork butt is on the schedule for this long weekend.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I burned mine in, but it was only a couple hours. Sounds like a good opportunity to warm it up before cooking.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I didn't cook on mine the first time. Warmed for the afternoon and opened it up later on to a high temp to burn off any unwanted residues. Congrats Tim. Hope you had a good trip!

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Thanks guys. Maybe I'll do a fairly long slow cure with no food, play with adjusting the temp a bit and learning and then doing some food the next day.
I'll be posting pictures, ha

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Hey guys,
So got it all set up! Sitting at 225F for a bit of a cure stage this evening.
One thing, there was a little chip out of the inside of the dome. Will try to capture with pictures.
Should I seal it with something? Don't really want to take this friggin thing back to Costco.

I don't think that will hurt too much, but there may be refractory cements out there that you could patch it with.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Cleaned the Kamado up today and it's still looking new after a year of use. The side tables should have been treated with oil, so they have dried out quite bad. I'll be replacing them with something else over the next few weeks.

Cool! Glad to see the stainless holds up to being outdoors. Thanks for the reminder to oil the tables as well!

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I'm thinking about buying some of that composite decking material and making tables out of that - anyone have a better suggestion? I was also thinking about just buying a couple bamboo cutting boards from Costco, Winners, Home Outfitters or somewhere like that, and attaching them as side tables.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Put a thin stainless top over the wood that's there. I plan on doing mine that way so I can use it as a tray if need be.

You might be able to tile it as well.

I'm hoping to build a whole table round my egg this summer I'm sure something similar for these, I plan on covering it with something that will withstand the heat of a pizza stone.
