Do it. I've had mine for a year now and it seems to be standing up great. It's still like new (minus the side tables that I neglected to properly maintain), and you can't beat the price.

I was hoping that you would say that!mr x wrote:Not one single valid reason.
Looks like I'll be entering into the wonderful word of charcoal. I'm sure that there will be a learning curve compared to gas grilling, but I'm pumped. I've already taken a t-bone out of the freezer for it.
Btw, any tips would be appreciated.

Think about a mapp torch lighter, or a propane torch with the extension hose for lighting the coal. Grab a few bags of basque lump at costco too.

All you need is one of these propane torches to light 'er up if you haven't already got one....
60 second light time, been using one for 5 yrs without issue. Finally blew the first tank about 9 months ago

Aside from ease of use, uber-fast heat-up time, low maintenance, super-high efficiency et al, you'll be hooked the minute you put the food in your mouth. Flavour-wise, there's just no comparison to gas, that's what these things are all about. For $600 it's a steal. Before these came along folks paid almost triple that for a similar setup, and they still went for itcanuck wrote:
Yeah, I'm sure that I wouldn't have any regrets making the switch. It could also replace my gas grille and my smoker. I think that I'll call Costco in Saint John tomorrow and see if they currently have any in stock.

Don't baby the thing. For grilling that t-bone put a good load of charcoal in it, get it rocking at 500 - 550 f (after the initial burn) and hold it there steady for a good 1/2 hr then grill that fucker. You can grill a steak easily 15 mins after lighting but you'll have hot/cold spots at the grate, you'll get a lot more even heat/burn if you let the cooker pre-heat for a while first. And don't leave the lid open, throw the steak on and immediately close the lid, open to flip then close it again. And calibrate the thermometer with boiling water before you use it at all, they can be off a good lot out of the gatescanuck wrote: Btw, any tips would be appreciated.

You won't give a fuck that your homeless with the food you'll be cooking. Hell you could even sell steak street-side for $15 a pop to get a new home, eventuallyCorneliusAlphonse wrote:okay, fuckit guys, ill get one too. no money but whatever! haNASH wrote:Aside from ease of use, uber-fast heat-up time, low maintenance, super-high efficiency et al, you'll be hooked the minute you put the food in your mouth. Jesus, now that's a lighter! So a regular BBQ lighter isn't sufficient??NASH wrote:All you need is one of these propane torches to light 'er up if you haven't already got one....

Re: Vision Kamado from Costco
The big difference is the mapp is a far better tool if you have to do any soldering or brazing. The price difference isn't that much for a dual use tool.

Re: Vision Kamado from Costco
I got mine this week and I'm hooked already, it's fucking awesome. It's fucking awesome. You won't regret it.
I'll be grilling all weekend learning this thing but so far I'm impressed how easy it is to control the temperature. I have a temp controller for long cooks, just waiting for an ebay fan to arrive.
Next up, fresh beef ribs from Chaters.

Re: Vision Kamado from Costco
one tip for anyone who got this or the walmart brand one, learn to " burp" your grill. Don't fling it open at temps over 350-375, open it a crack to let some air in, otherwise you'll be smelling burnt hair all day.

Re: Vision Kamado from Costco
Used my new Kamado for the first time this evening. It wasn't an elaborate cook or anything, just a couple of Chicken breasts and a Steak from the neighbour's beef farm. I was absolutely amazed at how well you could control the temps......MUCH MUCH easier than I thought it would be. Still have lots to learn though me thinks.....

Re: Vision Kamado from Costco
I wonder how many of these grill sales are contributed in some way to this forum? Costco owes a kickback! Nice looking food Shane, but that's a funny looking BEER glass....
